Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor and filmmaker Mohit Suri revisited ‘Aashiqui 2’ memories on its 13th anniversary.
It has been over a decade since the rain-soaked melodies and heartbreaking sacrifice of Rahul and Aarohi first captivated the nation. On April 26, 2026, the hit musical drama ‘Aashiqui 2’ officially clocked 13 years, prompting the film’s director Mohit Suri and lead stars Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur to take a sentimental walk down memory lane. The 2013 blockbuster, which became a cultural phenomenon and a major box-office triumph, continues to resonate with fans, proving that its echoes haven’t faded with time.

The director reminisced about the atmosphere on set, stating that every moment, from the silences to the tears and the musical notes, felt like something they were “living, not just creating”. He concluded his tribute by noting that while years have passed, the film remains on a loop in the heart. Mohit Suri, who recently delivered the 2025 hit ‘Saiyaara’ – the third highest-grossing film of that year – is widely credited with reviving the romantic musical genre in modern Hindi cinema.
The anniversary also saw heartfelt responses from the lead pair, for whom the film served as a career-defining milestone. Shraddha Kapoor, who played the aspiring singer Aarohi, commented on Mohit Suri’s post with high praise: “Some filmmakers don’t just make films… they make careers! @mohitsuri every year my gratitude for you only grows.”
Aditya Roy Kapur, who portrayed the turbulent superstar Rahul Jaykar, joined the celebration by sharing a throwback photo on his Instagram Stories.
The image showed him and Shraddha on a beach, listening intently to the director’s vision during a shoot. The chemistry between the two remains one of the most celebrated in Bollywood, leading to their subsequent reunion in ‘OK Jaanu’.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt, ‘Aashiqui 2’ was a spiritual successor to the 1990 classic. Despite featuring relatively fresh faces at the time, the film crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. Beyond the numbers, its legacy is rooted in its soundtrack. Tracks like ‘Tum Hi Ho’, ‘Sunn Raha Hai’, and ‘Chahun Main Ya Naa’ remains staples on playlists, continuing to dominate streaming platforms.
The film also featured notable performances from a supporting cast that included Shaad Randhawa as Rahul’s loyal manager Vivek, Mahesh Thakur as the label head Saigal, and Salil Acharya.
As fans used the anniversary to flood social media with petitions for a theatrical re-release, many also questioned the status of the franchise’s future. While a third installment was initially planned starring Kartik Aaryan, recent reports suggest a significant shift. Due to internal disagreements, the title ‘Aashiqui 3’ was reportedly scrapped, and the project is now moving forward under the title ‘Tu Meri Zindagi Hai’.
Currently, the original trio remains busy with new heights in their careers. Aditya Roy Kapur was last seen in ‘Metro... In Dino’, while Shraddha Kapoor continues her box-office streak following the massive success of ‘Stree 2’. Meanwhile, Mohit Suri is coming off the success of ‘Saiyaara’ and has reportedly signed a major romantic drama with YRF starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda.
Thirteen years later, ‘Aashiqui 2’ stands as a testament to the power of musical storytelling, proving that for some love stories, there truly is no end.
