‘Rocking Star’ Yash is all set to return to the big screen with ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups’, and the highly anticipated action thriller is already making its presence felt at the box office. With the Geetu Mohandas directorial scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 26, the film has generated significant interest ahead of its release, with its advance sales offering an early indication of the frenzy surrounding the Kannada superstar’s comeback. Advance bookings for the film in India opened on August 21, and the response has been particularly strong for the opening day.
According to trade figures cited by Sacnilk, ‘Toxic’ has already generated Rs 25.34 crore in gross advance sales, with 6,71,221 tickets sold for the opening day across multiple versions. The numbers underline the scale of anticipation surrounding the film, particularly given that the bulk of the advance sales have come before the movie has even reached cinemas.
Yash’s home state Karnataka is emerging as one of the key markets for ‘Toxic’, while the film is also recording substantial demand for its Hindi version. The Hindi 2D version has reportedly generated Rs 11.63 crore in advance gross, narrowly ahead of the Kannada 2D version, which stands at Rs 11.35 crore. The premium formats are adding further weight to the pre-release numbers. Kannada IMAX 2D has contributed more than Rs 71 lakh, while the Hindi IMAX 2D version has registered close to Rs 30 lakh.
The demand has also prompted exhibitors to expand the number of screenings in several locations. Mumbai, in particular, is witnessing strong interest, with some theatres scheduling shows from as early as 6 AM. Late-night screenings are also being added, with certain properties running shows close to midnight.
The pre-release conversation around 'Toxic' has not been limited to its box office prospects. Some sections of the audience had raised questions about the portrayal of female characters after the film’s trailer was released. Yash addressed those concerns at the film’s pre-release event on Saturday, asking audiences to watch the complete film before forming an opinion based solely on the trailer.
The actor said the film gives women a voice and expressed confidence that director Geetu Mohandas would present its female characters with agency and the ability to confront difficult situations. “There’s a voice for women in this film, unlike how it is coming across in the trailer,” Yash said.
'Toxic' marks Yash’s first major theatrical release following his previous outing 'KGF: Chapter 2', and the actor is taking on a dual role in the film as Raya and Ticket. The movie boasts an ensemble cast featuring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth.
