Yash’s ‘Toxic’ took a massive opening at the box office.

Yash’s ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups’ has delivered a box office opening far bigger than early projections, turning its first day into a major statement for Kannada cinema. Despite carrying an A certificate and opening to negative reviews, the Geetu Mohandas directorial crossed the Rs 100 crore net mark in India and finished its worldwide debut at around Rs 140 crore gross. According to Sacnilk, the film minted Rs 101.10 crore on Day 1 in India, translating into a gross of Rs 120.75 crore.

The Hindi market emerged as the largest contributor, accounting for Rs 55 crore in net terms. The Kannada version, despite registering strong occupancy, remained below the Rs 25 crore mark, while the Telugu release added Rs 16 crore.

The opening puts ‘Toxic’ among the biggest Indian theatrical launches of 2026. Its reported domestic debut ranks second for the year, narrowly behind 'Dhurandhar 2', which opened with Rs 145.55 crore, including paid previews.

While the film's domestic performance was spectacular, its overseas footprint was comparatively modest. ‘Toxic’ collected Rs 20 crore internationally on its first day, according to Sacnilk. Even so, the strong Indian performance propelled the film to an estimated worldwide gross of Rs 140.75 crore on day one. That makes it one of the biggest opening days in Kannada film history.

Toxic's worldwide debut is ahead of the opening-day global grosses of several major releases, including ‘Pathaan’ (Rs 106 crore), ‘Animal’ (Rs 116 crore), ‘Adipurush’ (Rs 140 crore), ‘Dhurandhar’ (Rs 41.35 crore) and ‘Jawan’ (Rs 129 crore).

The biggest challenge for 'Toxic' now will be converting its spectacular opening into a sustained theatrical run. The film arrived with enormous anticipation, particularly because it marks Yash’s return to the big screen following the success of 'KGF: Chapter 2'. The opening-day figures for 'Toxic' have arrived against the backdrop of largely unfavourable critical reactions. That could make word of mouth among audiences particularly important as 'Toxic' moves into its first weekend.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria alongside Yash.

The movie has also generated considerable conversation over its adult-oriented content. Several intimate sequences and imagery involving women have attracted attention.
