Visibly miffed by the timing and nature of the inquiry, Jackie Shroff did not hold back. He scolded the photographers, questioning the sensitivity of their professional approach during a time of personal and national mourning.

“Kasha vatnar, konachi aai geli tar? Aamchi aai geli hai. Kasa vatel manje, tera bolne ka matlab hai, kesa lagta hai maa kisi ki gayi to kesa lagta hai?” Jackie Shroff retorted in a mix of Marathi and Hindi.

When the paparazzi attempted to clarify by saying, “Bura hi lagta hai”, the actor ended the conversation abruptly, urging them to show respect. “Bas, khatam ho gaya baat. Hi time nahi re bolaycha, rahu de dada, ghar jaa,” he said.

Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 on April 12. She had been admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 after suffering from cardiac and respiratory issues, having been in poor health for several months.

On Monday, her mortal remains were kept at her residence for loved ones to pay tribute. In a moving tribute to her contribution to Indian culture, the singer was wrapped in the national tricolour. Footage from the residence showed soldiers wrapping her casket, which was adorned with white lilies, as she received full state honours.

The final rites were performed at the Shivaji Park Crematorium in Dadar. The funeral saw a massive gathering of figures from both the entertainment and political spheres. Among those spotted paying their respects were Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Vivek Oberoi, and Padmini Kolhapure. High-profile political leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray along with Aaditya Thackeray, were also in attendance.

Asha Bhosle’s career spanned over eight decades, during which she recorded thousands of songs in numerous Indian languages. Often cited as one of the most successful and versatile singers in the history of Hindi cinema, her voice defined eras of Bollywood music. From the soulful ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ and ‘Inn Aankhon Ki Masti Ke’ to the haunting ‘Ye Kya Jagah Hai Doston’, her repertoire remains unparalleled.

Her immense contribution to the arts was recognized with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2008. As the curtains fall on an era, the industry remembers her not just as a singer, but as a mother figure to the fraternity – a sentiment echoed by Jackie Shroff.
