One thought one wouldn't see similar chatter for another film, but Yash's 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' came out of the blue to say, 'Hold my beverage'. Even before Yash’s much-awaited return to the big screen after 'KGF: Chapter 2', the Geetu Mohandas directorial has become a regular talking point on social media.
The film, which also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, and Huma Qureshi, has had almost everything that can fuel an online frenzy: a superstar at the centre of a mysterious gangster drama, an unusually long wait for its release, multiple postponements, a high-profile clash avertion with Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’, questions over the film’s female characters, a controversial promotional teaser and, most recently, a trailer featuring a strikingly bold Yash moment.

‘Toxic’ is now scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on August 26, 2026, but the road to the big screen has been anything but straightforward. Originally announced for April 10, 2025, the film was subsequently pushed to March 19, 2026, then to June 4, and eventually to August 26. The repeated changes only added to the curiosity surrounding Yash’s next big-screen outing. ‘Toxic’ has deliberately maintained an air of mystery around its story and characters.

1. When ‘Toxic’ Was Set For Massive Clash With ‘Dhurandhar 2’

Eventually, however, the much-hyped clash disappeared from the calendar. The makers of 'Toxic' announced in March that the film would no longer be released on March 19. The official explanation focused on uncertainty surrounding the Middle East and the film’s international rollout. Since the film was being positioned as a global release, the makers said the situation could affect its ability to reach audiences in key overseas markets. ‘Toxic’ was subsequently moved to June 4.
The postponement naturally triggered another wave of online debate. While the makers cited international distribution concerns, the fact that the move also removed the proposed clash with 'Dhurandhar 2' became an unavoidable part of the conversation.
2. Another Postponement Of Release Date
If the March release date generated excitement, the subsequent postponements turned the film's release schedule into a story of its own. 'Toxic' was initially expected to arrive on April 10, 2025. The film was pushed back as production and shooting took longer than originally anticipated. It was then scheduled for March 19, 2026, only for that date to disappear from the calendar as well. The next target was June 4.
That date, too, did not last. In June, the makers announced that ‘Toxic’ would not arrive on June 4 after all. The team said the film was complete but that global distribution and partnerships needed to be aligned before determining the final release window. Yash eventually announced August 26, 2026, as the new worldwide release date.
Yash himself addressed the prolonged wait and the rumours surrounding the project at the trailer launch. He pushed back against speculation that the film had been shelved and explained that ‘Toxic’ required a lengthy shooting schedule. According to Yash, the movie took nearly 200 days to shoot, while he also praised the cast and crew for putting the project together.
3. Where Are The Ladies?
Another major 'Toxic' controversy stemmed from what was missing rather than what was shown. For much of the promotional campaign, the focus was overwhelmingly on Yash.
