The atmosphere in the arena turned electric yet sombre as the audience joined in, singing along to every word. Shreya also performed ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani’, visibly emotional as she addressed the crowd.

“We love you Asha Taai, you are going to be eternal in our hearts through your music. Asha Bhosle ji, I love you so much,” she told the cheering fans. The tribute quickly went viral, with fans on social media calling Shreya the “only elite singer” capable of carrying forward the mantle of legends like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

Asha Bhosle had been battling age-related health issues for some time. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday evening after complaining of exhaustion and a chest infection. According to medical reports, she suffered cardiac and respiratory complications, eventually leading to multiple organ failure on Sunday morning.

The news sent shockwaves through the film fraternity. Stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Kajol were among the first to express their grief online. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Shreya Ghoshal later shared a personal photograph with the legend, writing that the world had lost a voice that "defined generations" and "redefined music itself," praising her effortless versatility from playful melodies to deep ghazals.

The impact of Asha Bhosle’s death was felt far beyond the recording studio. In Mumbai, Punjabi sensation Karan Aujla, performing a live set on Sunday evening, dedicated a segment of his show to the late singer. In a touching crossover moment, he played a video of Asha Bhosle singing his viral hit ‘Tauba Tauba’ from one of her recent public appearances. The crowd erupted as Karan Aujla played ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani’ in the background, bridging the gap between the golden era of Bollywood and modern Indian hip-hop.

Sports fans also joined in the mourning. Ahead of the IPL 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium, players and officials observed a one-minute silence. Both teams took to the field wearing black armbands as a mark of respect for the singer, whose voice was a constant presence in the stadium’s history.
