The world of music and entertainment is in mourning following the passing of the legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle. The iconic artist breathed her last on April 12 at the age of 92 in Mumbai. Her passing marks the end of an era for Indian cinema, where she remained one of the most celebrated and versatile voices for over eight decades. As India bid a final farewell to the singer with full state honours, the grief transcended borders, sparking emotional tributes from international stars, including WWE icon John Cena and former Australian cricketer Brett Lee.

John Cena, who is an avid social media user, took to Instagram to pay his respects to the ‘Melody Queen’. In his signature style, John Cena shared a photograph of Asha Bhosle without any caption, allowing the image to speak for itself. The post immediately went viral, catching many Indian fans by surprise.

The international mourning continued with former Australian cricketer Brett Lee, who shared a deeply personal tribute. Brett Lee recalled his 2006 collaboration with Asha Bhosle on the duet ‘You’re the One for Me’, reflecting on the kindness and humility she displayed despite her global stature.
“What stayed with me most wasn't just her extraordinary talent, but how kind and humble she was,” Lee wrote, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to have worked with such a warm and generous soul.
Back in Mumbai, the atmosphere was heavy with grief as the singer was laid to rest at the Shivaji Park Crematorium on Monday (April 13). The ceremony was conducted with full state honours, including a gun salute by the Mumbai police. Her casket was adorned with white lilies and wrapped in the tricolour. The funeral saw a massive gathering of family, fans, and the elite of the film and political worlds.
Bollywood stars such as Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Tabu, and Jackie Shroff were seen paying their last respects. Ranveer Singh was notably seen consoling the singer's granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, during the emotional proceedings.
On social media, other industry stalwarts like Shah Rukh Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, Kangana Ranaut, and Hema Malini posted their own tributes. The event was also attended by prominent political figures, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray.
Asha Bhosle’s legacy is unparalleled. With a career spanning 80 years, she recorded thousands of songs in multiple languages, earning a Guinness World Record for the most studio recordings. From her legendary partnership and marriage with music composer RD Burman to her defining work alongside her sister, Lata Mangeshkar, she shaped the golden era of Hindi cinema.
Her repertoire included everything from classical ghazals like ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ to high-energy tracks like ‘Dum Maro Dum’ and ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’. Her contributions were recognized with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honour. While Asha Bhosle is gone, her voice remains an eternal part of the global musical landscape.
