However, stepping into the shoes of Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen is no easy feat. As soon as the song hit the internet, netizens flooded social media with heavily mixed reactions. While some viewers praised the track as a peppy, dance-worthy banger, a vocal section of fans felt severely underwhelmed, complaining that the revamped version "butchered" the charm and fun of the original classic. The consensus among the purists was clear: absolutely nothing can beat the OG vibe. In fact, many fans expressed how deeply they missed Salman Khan's screen presence, with several wishing the superstar had made a surprise cameo to elevate the modern track.
Interestingly, Salman Khan himself had a hilarious take on the remake. At a recent PVR INOX-hosted David Dhawan Film Festival event, the superstar jokingly teased Varun Dhawan in a light-hearted moment, quipping, “Isne mera ek aur gaana utha liya”.

Beyond the fan debates, the song is also making major headlines for a brewing legal battle. A severe dispute has erupted between Vashu Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment and Tips Music over the alleged unauthorized use of the song. Vashu Bhagnani recently expressed his deep disappointment to reporters, stating, “We sold the audio rights of Biwi No 1 to Tips at the time of release. Wog log badmaashi karke video chala rahe the. They were not even ready to meet us over this issue.” He revealed that a court has even granted a status quo, publicly questioning the ethics of David Dhawan using the track in his son’s movie, which is being produced by Ramesh Taurani. Tips Music, on the other hand, fired back by claiming they hold the legitimate rights to the musical catalogue.
Despite the controversy, the song's musical lineup remains undeniably star-studded. Retaining the soul of Anu Malik's original composition and Sameer Anjaan's classic lyrics, the fresh version is composed by the duo Akshay and IP. Singers IP Singh, Jonita Gandhi, Asees Kaur, and Sudhir Yaduvanshi bring fresh energy to the vocals, while the iconic original voice of Anuradha Sriram anchors the track.
Directed by David Dhawan and produced by Ramesh Taurani, ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ also stars Maniesh Paul, Jimmy Shergill, Mouni Roy, and Chunky Panday. The film revolves around Jass navigating a wild double life with two pregnant women. It is slated for a theatrical release on June 5.
