Fans of ‘Harry Potter’ have noticed a crazy connection between the deaths of Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon.

'Harry Potter' fans were left in shock last week. Actress Maggie Smith, who played the role of Professor McGonagall in the uber-popular fantasy franchise, died, aged 89. In the latest entertainment news, the fans of the franchise have now noticed a crazy connection between the deaths of 'Harry Potter' stars Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon. For the unversed, Michael Gambon played the role of Albus Dumbledore in the franchise. The two actors died on the exact same date -- September 27, one year apart. Smith passed away this year at age 89 while Gambon passed away last year, at the age of 82.

Maggie Smith played the role of no-nonsense Hogwarts teacher, head of Gryffindor house, and later headmistress, taking over the position from Professor Albus Dumbledore.

On the other hand, Michael Gambon played the role of Albus Dumbledore, McGonagall's long-time colleague and friend.

For the uninitiated, Michael Gambon succeeded Richard Harris, who played Dumbledore in the first two 'Harry Potter' films, before his death in 2002 at the age of 72.

Gambon had died in the hospital in September 2023.

“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon," the statement read, as per People Magazine.

"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82," the statement added.

On the other hand, last week, Maggie Smith's sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, confirmed the news of her death on the same date this year.

"An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother," their statement read.
