Bollywood star Varun Dhawan is currently on a whirlwind multi-city tour promoting his highly anticipated upcoming film, ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, co-starring Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. Varun Dhawan recently made a promotional stop at the Phoenix Mall in Lucknow. While the event drew an incredibly massive crowd of eager fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars, the overwhelming turnout ultimately left some attendees heartbroken. According to attendees, hundreds of fans had arrived hours early to secure a spot.

One disappointed female fan took to Instagram after the event to voice her immense frustration over missing out on an interaction with the actor. Sharing a video of the massive crowd, she detailed the exhaustion of the attendees, writing, “We waited for 5 hours and he came for just 5 min.”

The post quickly gained traction online and caught the attention of Varun Dhawan himself. Wasting no time, the actor stepped up to personally address the fan's disappointment in the comment section. Clarifying the abrupt departure, Varun Dhawan replied, “Sorry, I couldn't give an autograph; we were made to leave a lil early by the cops.”

Following his comment, the actor took to his own Instagram Stories to further address the situation with the massive Lucknow crowd. In the video clip, Varun thanked the fans for their overwhelming support, admitting the turnout was much larger than expected. He promised his supporters that his next visit to the city would take place at a significantly larger venue with far better organisation to avoid similar crowd-control limitations.

While the promotional tour presses on, ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ has been making headlines for more than just its star-studded mall appearances. The film recently found itself in the middle of a messy legal dispute regarding the remix of the iconic 1999 track ‘Chunari Chunari’ from Biwi No. 1.

Producer Vashu Bhagnani of Puja Entertainment claimed ownership of the rights and stated he was deeply hurt to see the track reworked without authorization, prompting his team to seek legal recourse and successfully secure interim protection from a court. Conversely, Tips released a statement maintaining they are the lawful owners of the music rights, backed by binding agreements they have exploited for nearly three decades. Furthermore, Tips had to issue a public notice confirming the movie is an original story and screenplay, firmly shutting down ongoing rumours that the project is a remake.

Despite the controversies, anticipation remains high. Directed by David Dhawan, the project marks the fourth creative partnership between the father-son duo, following ‘Main Tera Hero’, ‘Judwaa 2’, and ‘Coolie No. 1’. Backed by Ramesh Taurani under the TIPS banner, the film features a massive ensemble cast including Mouni Roy, Chunky Panday, Maniesh Paul, Jimmy Shergill, Rakesh Bedi, and Ali Asgar.

Fans can expect the official trailer to launch on May 21 in Mumbai, following the release of three tracks: ‘Wow’, ‘Tera Ho Jaun’, and ‘Vyah Karwado Ji’. ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ is slated to hit theatres on June 5, 2026, where it will face a box office clash with Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Peddi’, directed by Buchi Babu Sana.
