After days of swirling rumours and intense speculation on social media, Bollywood actress Mouni Roy and her husband, businessman and investment banker Suraj Nambiar, have publicly announced their separation. The couple also hit back at the rampant gossip surrounding their relationship status. They stated that attempts had been made to “sensationalize” their private lives through the circulation of “fictitious narratives and blatant falsehoods,” which they clarified do not reflect the reality of their relationship. Explaining the mutual reason behind the split, they wrote, “After thoughtful reflection on evolving personal priorities, we have mutually chosen to move forward on separate paths with respect and understanding.”

The statement concluded with an assurance that they will endeavour to cherish their friendship in the times to come, thanking fans for their continued support. This joint post arrived just a day after Mouni had shared a Instagram Story urging media houses to stop publishing “false narratives”, adding a folded hands emoji.

The first signs of trouble in paradise caught the internet's attention earlier this week when eagle-eyed fans observed that Mouni and Suraj had stopped following each other on Instagram. The divorce rumours gained massive traction when users noticed that Mouni had deleted pictures with her husband, and Suraj's Instagram account suddenly appeared to be deactivated or unavailable. Prior to this, the couple frequently shared loved-up posts giving fans glimpses into their relationship, featuring vacations, dinner dates, and festive celebrations.

The split marks the end of what Mouni once described as a “typical boy-meets-girl story”. The actress and the Bengaluru-based investment banker first crossed paths during a 2018 New Year's celebration in Dubai. Interestingly, Suraj, who had been living abroad, reportedly had no idea that Mouni was a popular celebrity. Their brief initial interaction grew into a close friendship as Mouni frequently travelled to Dubai, and their bond deepened significantly during the COVID-19 lockdown.

In a past interview, the ‘Brahmastra’ star revealed she was a “hardcore romantic” who loved old-school gestures like writing letters and long phone conversations, noting that everything between her and Suraj happened very organically as they complemented each other in many ways.

The couple eventually tied the knot on January 27, 2022, in a lavish yet intimate ceremony in Goa. Reflecting both of their cultural roots, the wedding festivities included a traditional Malayali wedding and a Bengali ceremony, alongside lively haldi and sangeet events, capped off by a post-wedding pool party.

Now, as they navigate this new chapter separately, the actress – known for hit reality appearances in ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7’, hosting ‘Temptation Island Indi’a, and films like ‘Gold’ and ‘Made in China’ – and her estranged husband are firmly asking the public and the media to give them the space to heal thoughtfully and privately.
