Varun Dhawan lands in trouble with Mumbai Metro authorities.

While Bollywood star Varun Dhawan is currently basking in the massive success of his latest film ‘Border 2’, his recent choice of commute has landed him in a bit of a sticky situation with city authorities. On Saturday, seeking to bypass Mumbai’s notorious weekend traffic for a surprise visit to a local cinema hall, the actor opted for the Mumbai Metro. The actor initially engaged fans via an Instagram Story, asking them to guess which theatre he was heading toward.

However, the situation escalated when videos surfaced online showing Varun Dhawan hanging from the overhead metal grab handles and performing pull-ups while fellow commuters looked on.

The Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) was quick to respond, sharing the clip on their official social media handles with a pointed message for the star. Comparing his behaviour to his high-octane film roles, the authorities noted: “This video should have come with a disclaimer like the ones in your action movies, @Varun_dvn. Do Not Try This On Maha Mumbai Metro... those grab handles are not for hanging.”

The MMMOCL didn't stop at a social media tag. They highlighted that such stunts fall under The Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002. Key points of the warning included:

Acts like these are punishable under sections relating to public nuisance and property damage.

Depending on the severity, such actions can lead to heavy fines or even imprisonment.

Social media users largely sided with the authorities, praising the MMMOCL for their unbiased stance in enforcing public safety rules, regardless of celebrity status.

Despite the metro controversy, Varun Dhawan’s professional life remains on an upward trajectory. Directed by Anurag Singh, ‘Border 2’ serves as the long-awaited sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 masterpiece.

Set against the 1971 India–Pakistan war, the movie stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, alongside Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana.

According to Sacnilk, the film has already raked in Rs 177 crore, cementing its status as a major commercial success.
