Hema Malini penned a heart-breaking note three days after Dharmendra's death.

Three days after the passing of cinema legend Dharmendra, his wife, actress-politician Hema Malini, has shared a heart-wrenching tribute on social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she posted a collection of cherished photographs featuring herself with Dharmendra and their daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol, accompanied by an emotional note describing the void his departure has left in her life.

In her moving note, Hema Malini described Dharmendra as much more than just a husband. She referred to him as her “friend, philosopher, guide, and poet”.

“He was many things to me. Loving Husband, adoring Father of our two girls, Esha & Ahaana, Friend, Philosopher, Guide, Poet, my ‘go to’ person in all times of need - in fact, he was everything to me! And always has been through good times and bad,” she wrote.

Highlighting his warm nature, she noted how he endeared himself to her entire family with his easy, friendly ways and genuine affection.

Hema also touched upon his unique stature as a star, writing, “As a public personality, his talent, his humility in spite of his popularity, and his universal appeal set him apart as a unique icon unequalled among all the legends. His enduring fame and achievements in the film industry will last forever.”

She concluded the note by expressing her deep grief: “My personal loss is indescribable and the vacuum created is something that will last through the rest of my life. After years of togetherness, I am left with myriad memories to relive the many special moments.”

In her subsequent tweets, Hema Malini shared beautiful photos of the some of their best times spent together.

Dharmendra and Hema Malini tied the knot in 1980. Together they welcomed two daughters, Esha (born 1981) and Ahana (born 1985). When they married, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur, with whom he shared four children – Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta, and Ajeita. Interestingly, despite their long marriage, Hema and Dharmendra never lived in the same house.

Their chemistry wasn't just personal; it was cinematic history. The duo starred in numerous hits including ‘Sharafat’, ‘Tum Haseen Main Jawan’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, ‘Jugnu’, ‘Pratigya’, and the cult classic ‘Sholay’.

The ‘He-Man’ of Indian cinema passed away at his residence on November 24 at the age of 89. He had been unwell for some time and was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on November 10 following a decline in health. He was discharged two days later as his family opted to continue his treatment at home.

His final rites were performed at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, drawing a massive gathering of industry titans. Shah Rukh Khan, Govinda, Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone were among the first to offer condolences. Other luminaries who paid their last respects included Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, Saira Banu, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and directors Rajkumar Santoshi and Anil Sharma.

Dharmendra leaves behind a monumental legacy with films like ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’, and ‘Anupama’. He is survived by his two wives and six children.
