Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Postponed Again, Varun Dhawan Reclaims June Release Window
Yash’s ‘Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups’ has been delayed once again, allowing Varun Dhawan’s ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ to return to its original release date of June 5.
The 2026 Indian box office calendar has been hit with a seismic shift as the highly anticipated pan-India actioner, ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’, has officially vacated its June release slot. In a ripple effect that has immediately reshuffled the summer movie schedule, Varun Dhawan’s upcoming romantic comedy, ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, has moved to reclaim the prime window, setting the stage for a dramatic transition in the post-IPL theatrical landscape.

Fans of Kannada superstar Yash will have to wait a little longer to see his return to the big screen. Despite the film being reportedly complete, the makers of ‘Toxic’ announced on Wednesday that they are stepping back from their scheduled June 4, 2026, release.
This marks the second major delay for the Geetu Mohandas directorial, which was originally intended to clash with Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ in March 2026 before being pushed due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Addressing the delay via social media, Yash clarified that the decision is driven by ambition rather than production hurdles. Following a stellar reception at CinemaCon, the team is now focused on “aligning global distribution and strategic partnerships” to ensure the film reaches its fullest potential on the world stage.
“At a time when Indian cinema is finding its voice and stepping onto the global stage with such promise, each of us has a responsibility to raise the bar,” Yash stated.
He emphasised that the “globally aligned date” will be announced soon, promising a cinematic experience that will stand as a “proud moment for Indian cinema”. The film, featuring a powerhouse ensemble including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth, remains one of the most talked-about projects of the year, shot simultaneously in Kannada and English.
The postponement of ‘Toxic’ has provided a golden opportunity for Varun Dhawan and the team behind ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’. Originally slated for a June 5 release, the David Dhawan-directed rom-com had previously been preponed to May 22 to avoid a head-on collision with Yash’s action spectacle.
With the path now clear, Varun took to social media to confirm that his film will revert to its original date of June 5, 2026. Expressing gratitude for the professional courtesy shown by Yash, Varun wrote, “Thankful to @thenameisyash and @maddockfilms for helping us reset the calendar... The first film to release post IPL.”
‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ boasts a vibrant cast featuring Pooja Hegde, Mrunal Thakur, Maniesh Paul, and Chunky Panday. By moving back to the first week of June, the film is now positioned to maximise its box office potential as the primary choice for families and young audiences looking for a high-energy romantic comedy immediately following the cricket season.
This reshuffle highlights a growing trend of strategic box office diplomacy among India’s top stars. By coordinating release windows, the industry is moving toward a model that avoids cannibalizing ticket sales, especially for big-budget projects aiming for international reach. While Yash’s fans may be disappointed by the wait, the promise of a truly global launch for ‘Toxic’ suggests that the scale of the film may exceed initial expectations.
