What follows is a montage of intense battles and brutal fistfights, interspersed with glimpses of the character’s personal life. Towards the end of the teaser, Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas makes an appearance as the film’s antagonist, delivering a chilling line, “I’m home, daddy!” as he confronts Raya.
Early reactions to the teaser have largely been positive, with many fans hailing it as another potential blockbuster from the Kannada film industry. Some even drew comparisons to Yash’s iconic ‘KGF’ character Rocky Bhai. Others suggested that the teaser spells trouble for Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film ‘Dhurandhar 2’, which is set to release on the same day. Several viewers also expressed surprise at the graphic nature of certain scenes in the teaser.
Earlier this year, on January 8 – Yash’s birthday – the makers had released the film’s first look, which was widely described as an initial teaser. That video showed Yash in an intimate moment inside a car before engaging in a violent shootout. While fans praised the action, the inclusion of a graphic scene set in a cemetery drew criticism from some quarters, leading to complaints from a Christian body, a state women’s commission, and even an FIR against the makers. Despite the controversy, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap publicly defended the video.
Directed by Geethu Mohandas, ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups’ also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi, and Sudev Nair in key roles.
Yash has co-written the film along with Geethu Mohandas. Shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19, where it will clash with Ranveer Singh’s much-anticipated ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, setting up one of the biggest pan-India box office clashes in recent years.
