There had been significant buzz around the much-anticipated box-office clash between Yash’s ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ and ‘Dhurandhar 2’, both initially scheduled to release on March 19. “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is a film we conceptualised with the vision of creating cinema for a global audience,” the statement read.

“Filmed in Kannada and English, it is built on the conviction of connecting with viewers both at home and across the world. After years of dedicated labour, we were excited to share our film with you on March 19. However, the current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East, has created a situation that impacts our goal of reaching and connecting with the widest possible audience. Therefore, in the interest of our partners and our audience, we have made the difficult but carefully considered decision to reschedule our release,” it added.

The film will now arrive in cinemas worldwide on June 4, 2026, releasing in English and multiple Indian languages.

Directed by Geethu Mohandas, ‘Toxic’ marks Yash’s return to the big screen following the massive success of ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ in 2022. The film features a star-studded cast including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria in key roles.

Written by Yash and Geethu Mohandas, the project has been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The film is produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations.

The announcement comes at a time when the makers were preparing for a grand trailer launch scheduled for March 8 in Bengaluru. The team had already mapped out the final phase of promotions ahead of the earlier March 19 release.

The postponement also brings relief to the anticipated box-office clash between ‘Toxic’ and Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’. With Yash’s film now shifting its release, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ is expected to remain the only major release on March 19.

Interestingly, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ is unlikely to release in the Middle East, similar to its predecessor which had faced bans in the Gulf and Pakistan.

Coming back to ‘Toxic’, the film is reported to be mounted on a massive budget of around Rs 600 crore. According to industry insiders, it has already recovered its entire cost through pre-release business.

Veteran producer G. Dhananjayan also commented on the film’s commercial positioning, stating that the project has already generated around Rs 600 crore through pre-release deals. He pointed to the film’s diverse cast – including Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Tovino Thomas and Amit Karval – as a key factor in giving it pan-India appeal.

He noted that Nayanthara gained nationwide recognition after ‘Jawan’, while Rukmini Vasanth has become widely known following ‘Kantara’. According to him, a film truly earns the “pan-India” tag only when it resonates with audiences across regions, rather than simply casting actors from multiple industries.

Dhananjayan also revealed that the initial strategy behind the March 19 release was to position ‘Toxic’ alongside ‘Dhurandhar 2’. He explained that the North Indian market plays a crucial role in box-office success, contributing roughly 40 to 45 per cent of earnings for films that cross the Rs 1,000-crore mark.

On the distribution front, the makers have partnered with Phars Film for international distribution. The deal, reportedly worth Rs 105 crore on a commission basis, covers the Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam versions of the film, while the English version remains outside the agreement.

Additionally, a separate distribution deal worth Rs 120 crore has been finalised for the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region with Sri Venkateswara Creations.

With the new release date locked for June 4, 2026, ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ now aims to reach global audiences under more stable circumstances.
