Varun Dhawan faced criticism after a temple visit video went viral, with netizens questioning his choice of attire.
Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has unexpectedly found himself in the crosshairs of severe online trolling following a recent visit to a Mumbai temple. The actor, who is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, stepped out for what was intended to be a low-key visit to seek blessings. However, the choice of his outfit for the religious outing has sparked a massive debate across social media platforms, drawing the ire of netizens.

The controversy ignited when the paparazzi captured the Bollywood actor outside the temple premises. A video of the visit, which quickly went viral on Instagram, showed Varun Dhawan dressed casually in grey shorts and a sleeveless vest. As seen in the widely circulated footage, his vest featured the phrase "Quick as Hell" prominently printed across the front.
As soon as the video surfaced online, social media users flooded the comments section to express their immense disapproval, deeming the attire highly inappropriate for a place of worship.
Netizens did not hold back in criticizing the actor's sartorial choices. One frustrated social media user commented, “Wear appropriate clothes in mandir.”
Another one added, “The least you could do is dress up appropriately for the mandir.”
A third user mocked the outfit choice, writing, “Mandir me aise kon jaata h bhai.”
“Isko kapde de do koi dhang ke,” another comment on the post read.
One user wrote, “Bro it’s temple not gym.”
While Varun Dhawan navigates this sudden wave of negative publicity, his film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ is embroiled in a massive legal battle of its own. Producer Vashu Bhagnani has officially filed a staggering Rs 400 crore lawsuit in the Bombay High Court. The lawsuit has been directed against Tips Industries, filmmaker David Dhawan, and other associated parties. Vashu Bhagnani has strongly accused the film's makers of the unauthorized use of two hit songs ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ and ‘Ishq Sona Hai’. Both of these iconic tracks featured in the 1999 hit film ‘Biwi No. 1’, which was produced by Vashu Bhagnani and, notably, also directed by David Dhawan.
Despite the looming legal rights dispute over the music, the promotional machinery for ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ is pushing forward unabated. The makers recently unveiled the official trailer, which prominently features both of the contested songs playing in the background. Furthermore, the team has boldly released the music video of ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ from the upcoming film.
The movie marks a significant milestone as it is touted to be veteran filmmaker David Dhawan's final directorial venture. Produced by Ramesh Taurani under the esteemed Tips Films banner, with Gaurav Bose of Maximilian Films serving as co-producer, the project boasts an expansive, star-studded cast. Alongside Varun Dhawan, the film stars Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The ensemble supporting cast is equally robust, featuring Maniesh Paul, Chunky Panday, Jimmy Shergill, and Mouni Roy.
‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ is slated to hit theatres on June 5.
