Rani Mukerji Says "Wives Should Raise Their Voices At Husbands", Internet Pushes Back
Rani Mukerji’s recent remarks did not sit well with a section of social media users, with many questioning her comments.
Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji has found herself at the centre of an online debate following a recent interview in which she shared her views on household dynamics and gender roles. A particular remark – suggesting that wives should raise their voices while speaking to their husbands – has triggered backlash on social media, with several users criticising the actress for appearing to normalise shouting within a relationship. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Rani reflected on how gender dynamics at home shape a child’s upbringing, especially a boy’s understanding of respect.
She emphasised that the way a father treats a mother plays a crucial role in forming a young boy’s worldview.
“I think respect starts at home,” Rani said, adding that when boys witness their mothers being ill-treated, it can subconsciously empower them to believe such behaviour is acceptable. She stressed that fathers need to be mindful of how they treat their wives, as that is what children grow up observing. According to her, when a mother is treated with dignity and respect at home, boys grow up understanding that women deserve that same respect and status in society.
Continuing her point, Rani said that even seemingly small actions – like a father raising his voice at the mother – should not happen. “So it all starts at home. Even a small thing like a father raising his voice at the mother shouldn’t happen. You know, the mother should raise her voice at the father, that’s how it should be,” she remarked.
Rani Mukherjee is back again with her bizarre takes justifying how wives screaming at their husband's is alright with the retarded journalist supporting her, then jokes about what she does to husband back home?!

The actress also recalled an anecdote from her school days, sharing that she once slapped a boy. She followed it up with a light-hearted comment about her husband, filmmaker-producer Aditya Chopra, joking, “Only one boy I slapped, and the rest of the boys were my friends. And just don’t go and ask my husband what happens to him every day at home.”
However, Rani’s comments did not land well with a section of social media users. Platforms like Reddit and Instagram saw a flurry of reactions questioning her perspective. “I think she tries to be funny, but she doesn’t realise that she is NOT,” one user wrote, while another commented, “She laughs and insists she made a great point.”
Others were more critical, with one remarking, “What kind of behaviour is this? I honestly don’t understand why no one ever calls her out. Just because she’s from an older generation doesn’t mean she can say anything she wants.”
Another user wrote, “We talked about this Rani. Not again!” Some highlighted the broader issue, saying, “Why would anyone raise their voice against anyone? Can’t we just talk about peace and gentle conversation?” while another added, “Normalising shouting in a relationship—no matter who does it—is a strange hill to die on.”
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Rani Mukerji is gearing up for the release of ‘Mardaani 3’, the third instalment of her popular franchise. The film follows her character, Shivani Shivaji Roy, a determined police officer striving to curb crime in her city, particularly crimes against women. Written by Aayush Gupta, directed by Abhiraj Minwala, and produced by Aditya Chopra, ‘Mardaani 3’ is scheduled to hit theatres on January 30.
