One user tweeted, “This award isn’t just for Azad or Vikram. It’s also a vindication for Vijay Agnihotri, Aman Mathur, Mohan Bhargav, Devdas, Veer, Kabir, Rizwan, and Gaurav. An honour long overdue.”
SRK is set to receive the Best Actor award for his blockbuster ‘Jawan’ (2023), directed by Atlee. This marks his first-ever National Award in a career spanning 30 years.
Rani Mukerji, seated beside SRK, was equally radiant in a dusty rose saree paired with a gold necklace inscribed with “Adira,” the name of her daughter with Aditya Chopra. She will receive the Best Actress award for her powerful role in ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’ (2023), directed by Ashima Chibber. The win also marks her first National Award in nearly 30 years of her acting journey.
Interestingly, their row also included actor Vikrant Massey, who shared the Best Actor honour with SRK for his critically acclaimed performance in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘12th Fail’. The three major categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Film this year have all seen first-time winners, making the event especially memorable.
SRK and Rani’s wins have added a sentimental touch for fans, as the two share a long and successful professional history with films like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998), ‘Chalte Chalte’ (2003), ‘Veer-Zaara’ (2004), ‘Paheli’ (2005), and ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ (2006).
Shah Rukh had earlier celebrated his and Rani’s achievement with a heartfelt Instagram post, writing, “National award… hum dono ki adhoori khwahish poori ho gayi… yay… congratulations Rani, you are a queen and love you always.”
For two actors who have defined eras of Bollywood cinema, being felicitated together for their first National Awards feels like a poetic full-circle moment – one that honours not just their individual excellence but also the enduring magic of their on-screen pairing.
