Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, released in cinemas in December 2023 but it continues to dominate the discourse with certain fans still expressing their displeasure with the content displayed in the film. ‘Animal’ might have turned out to be a blockbuster, but one cannot deny the criticism it faced for glorifying toxic masculinity and misogyny. Ranbir, who is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Love & War', recently responded to a person who called out his films 'Animal' and 'Sanju'.

Ranbir addressed the issue during the ongoing 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

At the event, a person stated that 'Sanju' and Animal' show that whatever happens, anything can be achieved with violence. He also said that release of such movies should not be encouraged.

Reacting to this, Ranbir said, "I completely agree with your opinion. As an actor, it is our responsibility to bring movies which bring a positive change to the society. Having said that, I'm an actor, it’s very important that I also dabble in different genres and different characters and play varied roles."

"But what you are saying is absolutely correct. We have to be more responsible towards the kind of films we make," he added.

For the unversed, 'Animal', co-starring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri, released in theatres on December 1, 2023, clashing with Vicky Kaushal's 'Sam Bahadur'.

The film did a business of more than Rs 500 crore in India. However, it was slammed for its depiction of misogyny, toxic masculinity, and graphic violence.

'Sanju', on the other hand, released in 2018. It is a biographical film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, based on the life of Sanjay Dutt. Ranbir Kapoor starred as the titular character.

The film also featured Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza and Jim Sarbh.

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor will be next seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film, 'Love & War', which also stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.

Ranbir also has Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana along with Sai Pallavi and Yash, in the pipeline.
