Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' has been postponed.

Bollywood actress, who is also a BJP MP from Mandi, is awaiting the release of her upcoming film 'Emergency'. In the film, Kangana Ranaut will be essaying the role of former India Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The new Hindi movie was supposed to release in cinemas on September 6, 2024. However, the release of the film has now been postponed, and this development was confirmed by trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh. The film's new release date has not been confirmed yet.

Taking to social media, Taran Adarsh wrote, “#BreakingNews...#Emergency postponed... Won't release on 6 Sept 2024. #ZeeStudios #KanganaRanaut.”

This development comes days after Kangana Ranaut claimed that the film's clearance was “stopped”. She said that the members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) received “threats”.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Kangana Ranaut had stated, “There are rumours doing the rounds that our film, Emergency, has been granted Censor certificate. This is not true. In fact, our film had been cleared but certification has been stopped because many threats were coming in. Death threats. The Censor Board members are getting threats.”

“We are under pressure not to show the assassination of Indira Gandhi, not to show Bhindranwale, not to show the Punjab riots. I don’t know what will be left to show then… This is unbelievable for me and I am very sorry for the state of things in this country,” she added.

For the unversed, the controversy around 'Emergency' began when the trailer was unveiled. The clip showed Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, leader of the separatist Khalistan movement, promising to get votes for Indira’s political party in exchange for a separate Sikh state.

The Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal then sent a legal notice to the CBFC, requesting the film’s release be halted over concerns about its portrayal of Sikhs.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has also promised to consider imposing a ban on the release of ‘Emergency’ in the state, as per The Indian Express.

Apart from Kangana Ranaut, 'Emergency' also stars Anupam Kher, the late Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry and Milind Soman.

The movie has been directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut. It has been backed by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films.

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut was last seen in ‘Tejas’. The film, which clashed with Vikrant Massey’s ‘12th Fail’ in October 2023, tanked miserably at the box office.
