In a tear-jerking tribute just days after legendary actor Dharmendra’s passing, the makers of the upcoming war film ‘Ikkis’ have released a poignant poem recited by the late star. Set to release next month, ‘Ikkis’ marks the cinema icon’s final big-screen appearance, and this newly released verse serves as a fitting farewell to a “true son of the soil”. The visuals showed Dharmendra's character visiting his old home, reconnecting with childhood friends, and reminiscing about days gone by. The poem, titled ‘Aj bhi ji karda hai, pind apne nu jaanwa’, captures the actor’s deep longing for his roots. In the verse, Dharmendra speaks fondly of simple rural pleasures – bathing in the pond with cattle and playing kabaddi with friends, just as he did in his youth. He declares that nothing can match the ‘pind vali zindagi’ and closes the emotional recitation with a touching line about missing his mother.
Sharing the clip, the production house wrote a heartfelt caption: “Dharam Ji was a true son of the soil, and his words carry the essence of that soil. This poem by him is a yearning; a tribute from one legend to another. Thank you for gifting us this timeless verse.”
The video immediately triggered an emotional outpouring from fans. Social media was flooded with messages expressing grief and admiration. “So moving!” wrote one user, while another commented, “This brought tears to my eyes.” Many others simply hailed him as a legend, noting how much he will be missed.
Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at the age of 89. ‘Ikkis’ will stand as his final cinematic outing in a glorious career spanning over six decades.
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the war drama is a biopic of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda in the lead role, alongside a strong ensemble cast including Jaideep Ahlawat, Suhasini Mulay, Sikander Kher, and Rahul Dev.
The film is scheduled to hit theatres on December 25.
