'Nayyi Navelli' Teaser: Yami Gautam's 'Daayan' Avatar Wants You To "Think Big". Watch

Yami Gautam is stepping into a rather unusual world with 'Nayyi Navelli', and the film’s teaser suggests that her latest character may be far more than the picture-perfect bride she appears to be. Directed by Balaji Mohan, the horror mystery introduces Yami as Mohini, a newly married woman who finds herself at the centre of suspicion inside her husband’s family. What begins as a seemingly ordinary family discussion quickly takes a bizarre turn when her brother-in-law openly declares that he believes she is a “daayan”.

The 91-second teaser plays with the idea of whether Mohini is genuinely supernatural or whether the family is simply caught up in its own paranoia. The accusation is met with disbelief and even a slap, but the visuals soon make it clear that something strange is unfolding. Mohini is shown displaying supernatural abilities, including a moment when she appears to levitate.

Rather than presenting herself as a helpless victim, Yami’s character seems to relish the mystery surrounding her. In one of the teaser’s most striking moments, Mohini casually boasts about consuming two daayans, three pishaachs and four ghosts for breakfast. Her warning to the audience to “think big” only adds to the intrigue.

The makers have positioned 'Nayyi Navelli' as a fantasy family entertainer that combines the irreverent madness associated with 'Tanu Weds Manu' with the dark mystery of 'Tumbbad'. The result, at least from the teaser, appears to be a mix of horror, humour, family drama and fantasy rather than a conventional supernatural thriller.

Sharing the teaser on social media, Yami added to the film’s playful tone with a message from Mohini herself: “Deviyon aur sajanon, Mohini ki taraf se a little request…”

The film has been backed by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow, along with MGM Studios. Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma have penned the screenplay, while G. V. Prakash Kumar has composed the music.

Alongside Yami, the cast features Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisth, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee, Sonal Jha, Suneel Sinha, Prateek Pachori, Akshat Singh, Babita Pandey, Ajay Pal and Neeraj Singh.

Set against a chaotic Meerut household, 'Nayyi Navelli' revolves around a family that initially sees Mohini as a blessing before one suspicious member begins wondering if she could actually be something far more sinister. Whether Mohini is the family’s unlikely saviour or the supernatural force they should fear remains the central mystery.

'Nayyi Navelli' is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 16, alongside a crowded theatrical release window that is also expected to feature 'Drishyam: The Conclusion' and 'Jailer 2'.
