The saga surrounding the wedding of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal has come to a definitive, heartbreaking end. After a whirlwind of events – ranging from medical emergencies to explosive allegations of infidelity – the couple has issued separate official statements confirming that they have called off their wedding. Addressing the whirlwind of speculation that has surrounded her personal life in recent weeks, Smriti Mandhana confirmed the split in a dignified statement.

The cricketer emphasised her desire for privacy while making it clear that the chapter is closed. In her first official statement, Smriti Mandhana shared, “Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off.”

Requesting space for both families to “process and move on,” Smriti shifted the narrative back to her professional duty.

“I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace. I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It's time to move forward,” she concluded.

Smriti Story

While Smriti’s statement focused on moving forward, Palash Muchhal’s statement addressed the elephant in the room: the rumours of infidelity. Following the postponement of their wedding, reports began circulating that Palash had cheated on Smriti with their wedding choreographer on the night of the sangeet.

Palash vehemently denied these claims, calling them “baseless” and expressing his pain at the public scrutiny. “I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship,” he wrote. “It's been very difficult for me to see people react so easily on baseless rumors about something which has been most sacred to me. It's the most difficult phase of my life.”

He further criticised the culture of “unverified gossip” and announced that his team would be taking strict legal action against those spreading defamatory content.

Palash Story

The couple was originally set to tie the knot on November 24 in Smriti’s hometown of Sangli. Pre-wedding festivities had already commenced, attended by several of Smriti's teammates from the Indian women's cricket team. However, on the morning of the wedding, an indefinite postponement was announced after the bride's father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was rushed to the Sarvhit Hospital with heart-attack-like symptoms.

In a dramatic turn of events, Palash and his family flew back to Mumbai later that same day, where the groom himself was reportedly hospitalized. At the time, Palash’s mother had told Hindustan Times that the composer was very close to Smriti’s father and refused to proceed with rituals until he recovered.

The finality of the decision is visible on their social media handles. Following their statements, Smriti and Palash have unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Smriti Mandhana has scrubbed her account clean, deleting all engagement-related pictures and videos, including the clip of their proposal. In contrast, Palash still retains the video of the proposal on his account. The proposal had taken place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai – the very ground where Team India lifted the Women's World Cup 2025 trophy.
