Smriti Mandhana’s father has been discharged, however, her wedding to Palash Muchhal remains postponed.

While speculation continues to swirl regarding the sudden postponement of cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal’s wedding, a positive update has emerged regarding the health of the cricketer’s father. Two days after the wedding was called off due to a medical emergency, Smriti’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, has been discharged from the hospital in his hometown of Sangli. According to a report by India TV, he was released from Sarvhit Hospital on the morning of November 25.

Reportedly, Shrinivas Mandhana had been rushed to the hospital on Sunday (November 23) – the scheduled wedding date – after experiencing heart attack-like symptoms while having breakfast. As per reports, doctors performed an angiography which fortunately revealed no blockages. Hospital management has confirmed that his condition is now completely stable and he is out of danger.

Smriti’s manager, Tuhin Mishra, detailed the scary moments leading up to the hospitalisation. The manager explained that Shrinivas’ health deteriorated suddenly during breakfast on Sunday morning. After waiting briefly to see if he would recover, the family called an ambulance as his condition worsened.

Tuhin Mishra emphasised Smriti’s stance on the matter: “Smriti is clear, she wants to see her father well and then get married.” Consequently, the wedding has been put on hold.

It wasn't just the bride's father who faced health issues; reports indicated that the groom, Palash Muchhal, was also hospitalised due to a viral infection and stress-induced complications.

Palash’s mother, Amrita Muchhal, spoke to Hindustan Times, revealing the deep bond her son shares with his future father-in-law. She stated that Palash is extremely attached to Shrinivas – perhaps even more so than Smriti is. “When he fell ill, it was Palash, before Smriti, who decided that they should not go ahead with the wedding rituals until he gets better,” Amrita shared.

Following the decision to postpone, Palash and his sister Palak returned to Mumbai on Sunday, which initially fuelled rumours about the cancellation.

Despite the positive health news, the wedding remains postponed with no new date announced by either family. This silence, coupled with recent social media activity, has kept the rumour mill running.

Smriti Mandhana recently deleted all engagement and pre-wedding festivity posts from her Instagram. Following her lead, her teammates also removed the viral engagement announcement video. The clip, which featured Smriti dancing with teammates to the song 'Samjho Ho Hi Gaya' from ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, had garnered over a million likes but is no longer visible on the account of close friend and teammate Jemimah Rodrigues.

Palash’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, issued a statement on Monday to clarify the situation and shut down unnecessary gossip. She reiterated that the postponement was solely due to Shrinivas’ health. “We request you all to respect the privacy of both families during this sensitive time,” she wrote.

Neither Smriti nor Palash, who have been dating since 2019 and went public with their relationship on their fifth anniversary in July 2024, have commented on the situation yet.
