Yash's 'Toxic' has made an encouraging start at the box office.

Yash’s much-awaited ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ has made an encouraging start at the box office even before its theatrical release. Advance booking for the Geetu Mohandas directorial opened across India on August 21, and the initial response suggests that the film is heading towards a strong opening when it arrives in cinemas on August 26. The biggest talking point from the first few hours of pre-sales has been the speed at which tickets are being snapped up.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Toxic’ has so far sold 84,915 tickets for its opening day, grossing Rs 4.10 crore. The Hindi version has sold 25,312 tickets, while the Kannada version has sold more than 59,000 tickets. It is worth noting that the Tamil and Telugu versions have yet to open advance booking.

The advance booking clearly highlights the enormous anticipation surrounding Yash’s return to the big screen after 'KGF: Chapter 2'. Karnataka has emerged as one of the film’s strongest markets during the opening phase of advance sales. According to Sacnilk, the movie has already grossed more than Rs 3 crore in the state, underlining the demand for Yash’s latest outing. The bookings have also opened in North India, while some other centres are yet to begin sales.

The early momentum is particularly significant because 'Toxic' is being released on a large-scale, pan-India basis. The film will release in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, with an IMAX release also planned. BookMyShow had already recorded more than 1 million interests in the film before ticket sales opened, indicating the curiosity surrounding the project.

The excitement has not been restricted to India. According to several reports, 'Toxic' has also registered notable advance sales in the United States.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, 'Toxic' features Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. With advance bookings gathering pace, all eyes are now on the film’s final pre-release numbers and its opening-day performance on August 26.

According to the Indian Express, the CBFC cleared the upcoming film last week. The project runtime is 3 hours and 12 minutes. 'Toxic' has been given an 'A' certificate, and the makers have been directed to mute and replace two words or phrases in the Kannada version, with similar changes in the English subtitles.

The mandatory anti-smoking and anti-drinking warnings will also be added to the final print of the film.

Earlier, lead actor Yash had said that his upcoming film is strictly for adults and kids should stay away. “Regardless, we ensured one thing: along with the title, we also gave the tagline that Toxic is a ‘fairytale for grown-ups.’ We have made it very clear that the film is not for children or adults with a child’s mindset,” he said on ‘Aap Ki Adalat’.

“Children should absolutely stay away from Toxic. Children, please stay at home. We didn’t make the movie for them. Grown-ups, who know everything, can choose what they want to see and learn from Toxic. It’s a genuine film with a deep story,” he added.
