Watch: SRK Stops Fan From Clicking Selfie On Stage, Internet Says He Was Just Following “Protocol”
Shah Rukh Khan sparked debate after calmly redirecting fans from selfies to official cameras during a trophy presentation at the Joy Awards 2026 in Riyadh.
The King of Bollywood is making headlines again, but this time it’s for his etiquette lessons on a global stage. A video from the Joy Awards 2026 in Riyadh has gone viral on Threads, sparking a heated debate over Shah Rukh Khan’s interaction with fans during a trophy presentation. The footage captured Shah Rukh Khan on stage when a person standing next to him attempted to take a selfie. In a calm and smiling manner, the actor was seen taking the phone and gesturing for the individual to look toward the official event photographers instead.
After handing the phone back, a second person tried for a selfie, and SRK again directed them toward the professional cameras. He then proceeded to hand over a trophy, ensuring both parties are smiling and correctly posed for the official lens. The same video has gone viral on Instagram as well.

The clip, which was captioned with a question about whether SRK's actions were “arrogant” or simply misunderstood in a high-security environment, quickly divided the internet. However, a significant portion of the fan base rushed to his defense.
Fans pointed out that by directing the person to the front camera, SRK was ensuring the award was actually visible in the shot.
Many argued that on-stage selfies are inappropriate at prestigious events. One user noted, “You don’t click personal selfies to ruin official photographs... imagine anyone clicking personal selfies while on stage receiving an Oscar or IIFA.”
Commenters highlighted that professional event cameras would provide far better memories than a handheld selfie. Supporters emphasised that SRK was merely fulfilling his obligation to the organisers by ensuring official photos were captured correctly.
The 2026 Joy Awards was a massive international affair. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the event featured a high-profile guest list including Millie Bobby Brown, Katy Perry, Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun.
Following the event, the actor took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share a warm exchange with Turki Alalshikh, the chairperson of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority. Congratulating him on "half a decade of #JoyAwards," SRK described the function as “spectacular and very grand.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Shah Rukh Khan is preparing for his next big-screen venture, ‘King’. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film is generating massive buzz for its star-studded cast, which includes Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan and Akshay Oberoi, among many others.
Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, ‘King’ remains one of the most anticipated projects of the year.
