Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi on Thursday appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) after she was summoned over the alleged indecent portrayal of women in the song ‘Sarke Chunar’. It is worth noting that earlier, Nora had distanced herself from the controversy, claiming she had shot only the Kannada version and that her consent was not taken before the song was adapted into Hindi.

After appearing before the body, Nora Fatehi addressed reporters outside the venue. She revealed that she has submitted a written apology, adding that she understands the responsibilities that come with being a public figure and an artist.

"I did (appear before the Commission) and I apologised. It was just a situation that I was put in, and there was no intention to offend anybody, but of course, I have to be responsible as an artist. I definitely apologised, we have done everything in writing," Nora said.

“They have been so kind and helpful. It's really important for us to give back to society. So, I decided that we should sponsor a few orphan girls, their education, so that is the goal after this matter,” she added.

Speaking of 'Sarke Chunar', the song was unveiled to the public earlier this year. However, several vulgar lyrics went viral on social media, and netizens took to X to vent their anger at the makers for using such crass language. The outrage also led to the Hindi music video being removed from YouTube.

For the unversed, ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’, from the Kannada film 'KD: The Devil', featured Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt. The track faced criticism for vulgar lyrics and provocative visuals.

The song was originally written in Kannada by the film’s director, Prem. Lyricist Raqeeb Alam, who is credited for penning the lyrics for the Hindi version, distanced himself from the controversy, saying he had merely translated the original lyrics.

Earlier, BJP MPs Ravi Kishan and Kangana Ranaut had slammed the song for its vulgar content, saying there should be regulations brought in so that these things don't happen in the future. Singer Armaan Malik had also criticised the track.

When the backlash became too hard to ignore, Nora had put forward her stance, saying she had no idea about the lyrics that would be used in the Hindi version, nor was any permission taken from her before using her images. Her comments came shortly after Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the controversial song had been banned, saying that the freedom of speech must operate within “reasonable restrictions” that respect society and culture.
