The musical segment of the closing ceremony began with Sukhbir taking the stage and performing his chart-topping hit ‘Oh Ho Ho Ho’, instantly getting the crowd on its feet. After the electrifying start, Ricky Martin followed up with a performance of several of his popular tracks.

Speaking about the experience earlier, Sukhbir told news agency ANI that the show held special significance for him. “I am very excited as I have never performed for a cricket audience. This performance will be very special,” he said.

While the music created a festive atmosphere, the cricket match that followed delivered a historic result. Celebrations erupted across India as the Men in Blue clinched their second consecutive – and third overall – T20 World Cup title on Sunday. Playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Suryakumar Yadav’s team dominated New Zealand to secure a massive 96-run victory.

India set the tone of the final with a commanding batting performance. After winning the toss and batting first, the team piled up an imposing total of 255 runs. The innings was powered by explosive performances from Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, putting immense pressure on the New Zealand side.

The Indian bowlers then sealed the deal with an equally dominant display. Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with a brilliant four-wicket haul, while Axar Patel provided strong support by picking up three wickets. Their efforts bundled New Zealand out for just 159 runs. Bumrah’s devastating spell earned him the Player of the Match award, while Sanju Samson was named Player of the Tournament after an outstanding campaign in which he scored 321 runs across five matches.

The victory carried deep significance for Indian cricket. It marked India’s first-ever win against New Zealand in a men’s T20 World Cup match. The triumph also ended what many fans had dubbed the “Ahmedabad curse”. India had previously endured two painful ICC white-ball defeats at the Narendra Modi Stadium – the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss to Australia and a Super Eights defeat to South Africa earlier in this very tournament.
