Elvish Yadav and Rashami Desai slammed comedian Pranit More over the “Rs 370 biryani” controversy, joining the debate on consent, misogyny, and accountability in comedy.
The internet is currently seething with anger over a recent stand-up comedy clip that went viral for all the wrong reasons, and the entertainment industry is stepping up to call it out. The controversy, which centres around comedian Pranit More and an audience member named Himanshu Jangra, has sparked a massive debate about consent, misogyny, and the responsibilities of content creators. Leading the charge against this alarming display of entitlement are popular YouTuber Elvish Yadav and Indian actress Rashami Desai, who have both strongly condemned the “Rs 370 biryani” joke.

Elvish Yadav took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his utter disgust at the situation. He didn't mince his words while slamming both the 23-year-old audience member who made the remarks and the comedian who enabled them. Pointing out the deeply problematic mindset on display, Elvish wrote, “370 ki biryani ne do cheezein expose kar di: Ek aadmi ko laga consent ka MRP hota hai. Aur ek comedian ko laga har uncomfortable silence ko laughter track se bachaya ja sakta hai. Biryani toh dum pe bani thi, controversy ego pe.”

His fiery tweet perfectly summarized the outrage of netizens who were shocked that such behaviour was being passed off as casual humour.

Following Elvish's condemnation, actress Rashami Desai also took to social media to voice her fury. Posting on her Instagram Stories, the Indian actress criticised Pranit More, explicitly stating that the viral interaction was not comedy, but rather a glaring lack of creativity and meaningful content. Calling for severe repercussions for the comedian, she wrote, “Pranit is not an artist. He's also not a comedian... Also Pranit ke bhi shows band hone chahiye. #Shame on Pranit. Shame on Gurgaon Boy.”
So, what exactly triggered this massive uproar? The incident unfolded during a crowd-work segment at Pranit More’s comedy show in Gurugram. During the interaction, an audience member, identified as Himanshu Jangra, proudly narrated a deeply disturbing personal anecdote. He revealed that after taking a woman on a date and spending Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani for her, he felt entitled to a "return" on his financial investment in the form of physical intimacy. Detailing his shocking behaviour, Himanshu unabashedly said, “Maine kaha 370 rupay lage hain, main wasool toh karunga.”
Making matters worse, Himanshu Jangra went on to describe how he insisted that the reluctant woman accompany him to a “dark” park. Instead of shutting down this blatant display of harassment and misogyny, comedian Pranit More simply laughed along with the audience and later uploaded the clip to his social media channels.
The decision to post the video drew the ire of digital creator and actress Kusha Kapila as well. She strongly urged people to call out such disgusting comedy. Kusha pointed out a crucial detail: uploading these specific clips is a deliberate, calculated choice made by creators to generate reactions and engagement, rather than to showcase actual comedic talent.
The swift and severe online outrage has resulted in massive real-world consequences for both men involved in the viral video. Following the intense backlash, Himanshu Jangra issued an apology and completely deleted his social media accounts. Furthermore, he was terminated from his job at Starvik Design, a development that was officially confirmed by the company's founder, Vivek Vishwakarma.
Comedian Pranit More is also facing the heat. After the internet rallied against him, he was forced to issue a public apology, admitting that the comments made during his show did not reflect his personal views. He acknowledged his failure to handle the situation appropriately, citing a "lapse in judgment" for choosing to laugh and move on instead of directly challenging the audience member's problematic remarks. Subsequently, Pranit More deactivated his Instagram account as the heat continues to build.
