Social media influencer Shreya Kalra pulled off one of the most unexpected victories when she lifted the trophy and the Rs 1 crore cash prize in ‘Lock Upp Season 2’. Hosted by Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan, the season was packed with television heavyweights like Ram Kapoor, Shilpa Shinde, and Shivangi Joshi. While Shreya entered with her “badtameez” tag and found herself in fiery confrontations almost immediately, her sharp survival instincts and aggressive gameplay kept her in the spotlight.
In a shocking grand finale twist, she strategically used her advantage powers to alter voting dynamics, effectively sidelining her direct rivals. Shreya defeated first runner-up Shivangi Joshi by seven votes in the finale, while Yogesh Rawat finished third; Ram Kapoor and Shilpa Shinde completed the top five.

2. Elvish Yadav – Bigg Boss OTT 2
Wild cards usually enter a reality show to disturb existing equations, deliver a burst of drama and then leave the trophy race to contestants who have been there since Day 1. Elvish Yadav demolished that unwritten rule on Salman Khan-hosted ‘Bigg Boss OTT 2’ in 2023. He arrived after the season was already underway, challenged established house dynamics and quickly converted his enormous digital following and unfiltered presence into a title-winning campaign.
Elvish beat early entrant and strong frontrunner Abhishek Malhan in the finale, with Manisha Rani finishing behind them, and took home the trophy and Rs 25 lakh. The result created history: he became the first wild-card contestant to win any season of ‘Bigg Boss’. It was shocking because late entrants are normally at a structural disadvantage; Elvish did not simply overcome that disadvantage – he made his late arrival the season's biggest storyline.
3. MC Stan – Bigg Boss 16
For much of ‘Bigg Boss 16’, the conventional winner's edit appeared to belong elsewhere. Shiv Thakare was an experienced reality-show strategist, while Priyanka Chahar Choudhary was vocal, highly visible and widely discussed as a potential champion. MC Stan, meanwhile, had stretches in which he stayed away from the house’s loudest battles and even wanted to leave. That is why Salman Khan announcing the Pune rapper as the 2023 winner produced one of the franchise’s most talked-about finale shocks.
MC Stan beat Shiv Thakare, the first runner-up, while Priyanka finished third. He received the trophy, Rs 31.8 lakh and a car after the season. The victory revealed something the house narrative had partly obscured: MC Stan's connection with his hip-hop audience was enormous, and his fans were voting even when he was not dominating screen time. MC Stan himself said he had not expected to win.
4. Manveer Gurjar – Bigg Boss 10
‘Bigg Boss 10’ introduced a unique “Celebrities vs. Commoners” format, but nobody genuinely expected a commoner to go all the way and win it all. Hosted by Salman Khan, the season featured strong, established celebrity contenders. Enter Manveer Gurjar, a regular guy from Noida with a heavy beard and a fiery temper.
Over the season, audiences watched Manveer completely transform from an underdog into a sensible, patient, and mature player. His genuine friendships, honesty, and grounded personality helped him defeat VJ Bani in a neck-and-neck finale. Taking home the Rs 50 lakh prize money, his victory remains one of the most heartwarming underdog stories in the show’s history. Interestingly, Manveer later admitted that he had considered his own victory “impossible” and expected Bani to win.
5. Ashutosh Kaushik – Bigg Boss 2
Long before “commoner versus celebrity” became an official ‘Bigg Boss’ theme, Ashutosh Kaushik had already shown how powerfully an outsider story could play. The Saharanpur dhaba owner entered the Shilpa Shetty-hosted ‘Bigg Boss 2’ in 2008 with one reality title – MTV Roadies 5 – but far less mainstream recognition than several housemates. In a season featuring Rahul Mahajan, Diana Hayden, Monica Bedi and television personalities such as Raja Chaudhary, Ashutosh's rough-edged, unpolished persona made him an unlikely champion.
After Rahul voluntarily exited the race close to the finale, Ashutosh defeated Raja, the runner-up, and third-placed Zulfi Syed to win the trophy and a Rs 1 crore.
6. Shantanu Maheshwari – Khatron Ke Khiladi 8
Hina Khan entered ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 8’ with the profile of one of television's biggest stars, Ravie Dubey was a formidable competitor and Nia Sharma secured a ticket to the finale. Yet the contestant who quietly outlasted them was Shantanu Maheshwari. Host Rohit Shetty nicknamed the actor-dancer the “silent killer,” an apt description of a journey powered less by swagger than by concentration, agility and remarkable consistency; he received his first fear fanda only in the finale week.
Shantanu defeated Hina and Ravie in the final task of the Spain-set 2017 season, subtitled ‘Pain in Spain’, and won Rs 30 lakh, the trophy and a Jeep Compass. His victory was not a random last-minute swerve – his co-contestants had even identified him as the strongest participant – but it was a major surprise when measured against the pre-season celebrity pecking order.
7. Manisha Rani – Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11
Manisha Rani repeated Elvish Yadav’s wild-card disruption in an entirely different arena. Entering ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11’ midway meant she had fewer weeks than the original contestants to improve, build a voting base within the show and convince judges Malaika Arora, Farah Khan and Arshad Warsi. Instead of being treated like a late-season guest, Manisha and choreographer Ashutosh Pawar became genuine contenders with energetic performances and her trademark unfiltered charm.
On the March 2024 finale of the Gauahar Khan and Rithvik Dhanjani-hosted season, she finished ahead of Shoaib Ibrahim and Adrija Sinha and became the first wild-card winner in ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ history. Manisha received the trophy, Rs 30 lakh and a trip to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
8. Meiyang Chang – Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4
The fourth season of the celebrity dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ was an incredibly competitive season. The undisputed fan favourite heading into the finale was the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, whose jaw-dropping performances and sheer talent left both the judges and the audience completely amazed.
However, in a major upset that shocked the nation, singer-actor Meiyang Chang was crowned the winner of the season. While Meiyang Chang had shown immense growth as a non-dancer throughout the competition, fans were absolutely stunned by the finale results, as the entire country had been actively rooting for Sushant to lift the trophy.
