Janhvi Kapoor recently attended a 'Peddi' promotional event with Ram Charan.

Vijayawada witnessed a chaotic turn of events on Monday during the promotional run for the highly anticipated Telugu sports action drama ‘Peddi’. Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor was left visibly flinching and scared when a security breach saw an overzealous fan get uncomfortably close to her in a frantic attempt to meet his idol, Ram Charan. The promotional event – attended by Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, and director Buchi Babu Sana – was proceeding smoothly until the fan rushed the stage.

Strikingly, the intruder was sporting the exact same hairstyle as Ram Charan and looked noticeably similar to the actor. As he sprinted towards his favourite star, he got too close to Janhvi, who was seated right beside Ram Charan.

In a video that has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), Janhvi can be seen flinching, clearly uncomfortable and taken aback by the sudden intrusion.

Before the situation could escalate further, Ram Charan’s personal bodyguard – MMA fighter Kevin Kunta – sprang into action. Kevin swiftly pulled the fan away as additional security swarmed the area to bring the chaos under control.

Social media users were quick to praise Kevin Kunta for his fast reflexes and for ensuring the actors' safety in a highly crowded environment. Interestingly, this isn't the first time Kevin, who usually accompanies Ram Charan in a dark suit, has made headlines.

During a recent promotional interview with Amit Bhatia, Ram Charan joked about his bodyguard's rising popularity. “Aap log itna famous bana diya usko, abhi mai bahar nahi allow kar raha hoon usko. Usko ek chocolate de, biscuit de, aur mere baare mei… they might bribe him,” Ram Charan quipped.

Despite the initial scare, a second video from the Vijayawada event showed the situation resolving peacefully. The frantic fan was eventually allowed to properly meet Ram Charan, where he was seen thanking the actor and falling to his feet.

While the cast – which also includes Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani – gears up for the film's June 4 release (with paid premieres on June 3), the pre-release hype is translating into massive box office figures. Produced by Vriddhi Cinemas and IVY Entertainment, and presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings, ‘Peddi’ has already crossed a staggering Rs 12 crore in global advance bookings.

However, the domestic rollout is facing a divided scenario. In India, the first-day advance booking gross currently stands at Rs 4.07 crore. The Telugu version is leading the charge, having grossed Rs 1.90 crore with 78,386 tickets sold across 988 shows. In contrast, the Tamil and Hindi versions have registered slower starts at just Rs 24,620 and Rs 15,500, respectively, due to an inordinate delay in fully opening advance bookings.

While the film is experiencing immense pre-sale momentum in Andhra Pradesh, things have hit a roadblock in Telangana. With less than 48 hours to release, advance bookings in Telangana are entirely frozen due to a reported delay in receiving government orders for paid premieres and ticket price hikes. Meanwhile, the AP government has officially permitted a Rs 100 to Rs 125 ticket price increase (for single screens and multiplexes, respectively) for a 10-day period, allowing up to five shows a day. As a result, BookMyShow has already listed June 3 premiere tickets at Rs 600 in AP.

The overseas market is roaring loudly for the sports drama. North American pre-sales have smashed past the USD 882,000 (approx. Rs 8.39 crore) mark, with US premiere sales alone inching toward USD 800,000 (standing real-time at USD 797,000 or Rs 7.58 crore).

All told, Peddi’s worldwide pre-release business has hit a mammoth Rs 218.5 crore. This comprises Rs 135 crore from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined (including Rs 48 crore from the Nizam region), Rs 17 crore from Karnataka, Rs 5.25 crore from Tamil Nadu, Rs 2 crore from Kerala, and Rs 25 crore from the Rest of India (including the Hindi belt). Furthermore, the film's lucrative overseas rights have reportedly been sold for around Rs 34 crore.
