Renowned Hollywood director Christopher Nolan and actor Tom Holland have officially arrived in Mumbai, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated cinematic events of the year. The duo landed in the city ahead of the grand India premiere of Christopher Nolan’s latest directorial spectacle, ‘The Odyssey’. Notably, this marks a massive milestone for local cinephiles, as it is the first time a Christopher Nolan feature is receiving an official premiere in India.

Paparazzi captured the stars arriving at the Mumbai airport before they made their way to the iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel. Tom Holland delighted the waiting photographers and gathered fans when he turned around to flash a smile and wave before heading inside the venue.

Christopher Nolan arrived separately, accompanied by his wife and longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas.

Reports also indicate that the film’s lead, Matt Damon, who stars as the Greek hero Odysseus, will be joining the team in Mumbai very soon.

Universal Pictures International has positioned Mumbai as a key stop on The Odyssey’s global promotional tour, sharing the spotlight with major cities like London, Paris, and New York. The exclusive India premiere is a two-day extravaganza unfolding on July 10 and July 11. The festivities kick off on July 10 with a special screening for a select section of the Indian media. This will be followed by a star-studded special screening on July 11, which will be attended by prominent celebrities from the Indian film industry. Ahead of Saturday's screening, Christopher Nolan is also scheduled to interact with the Indian media and answer questions.

Produced by Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner, ‘The Odyssey’ is a massive adaptation of Homer’s timeless Greek epic. The plot follows Odysseus (Damon) on his perilous, nearly 10-year journey home to Ithaca after emerging victorious in the Trojan War. Along the way, he battles a treacherous world inhabited by gods, monsters, and mythical creatures that test his endurance, courage, and intelligence.

Back home, his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, fights to protect their kingdom, while their son Telemachus (Tom Holland) grows up awaiting his father's return. The powerhouse ensemble cast also features Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, and Samantha Morton.

The technical ambition behind the film is already generating enormous hype. Filmed across multiple countries, ‘The Odyssey’ makes cinematic history as the first feature film ever shot entirely using newly developed IMAX cameras. This unprecedented scale has translated directly to the box office. IMAX ticket bookings opened nearly a month ahead of the film's July 17 worldwide theatrical release, and advance sales have skyrocketed. Premium tickets in cities like Mumbai and Delhi – some priced as high as Rs 3,300 – have already sold out across several theatres well ahead of opening day.

Speaking to the Associated Press about the massive anticipation surrounding the project, Christopher Nolan admitted that the experience is both thrilling and daunting.

“The audience tells you what it is. And that means that for us, this is an exciting moment, but a very frightening moment, because it's real,” the director said. “There's nothing to hide behind. We made this film for a theatrical audience, and it goes out in the world as that. And we'll see what the world makes of it.”

While this is his first premiere in the country, this marks Christopher Nolan’s third visit to India. He last visited in 2019 to spend ten days shooting key sequences for ‘Tenet’, accompanied by actors John David Washington and Robert Pattinson (who reunites with Christopher Nolan for ‘The Odyssey’). Prior to that, Christopher Nolan travelled to India in 2011 to film crucial portions of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ at the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur.
