“Passion Is Somewhat…”: Sunny Deol On Why Bollywood Is Struggling
Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Jaat’.

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Jaat’, which also stars Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Singh. Over the last two years, the Hindi film industry has been going through a crisis as several movies have been tanking at the box office. The ‘Gadar 2’ actor feels that this is happening because the filmmakers don't have passion these days and this is why the South movie industry has overtaken Bollywood.
He also said that the fans now need an overall theatrical experience to go to cinemas to watch a particular movie.
Speaking to trade analyst Komal Nahta about the same, Sunny Deol said, “The passion that we possessed in our industry is somewhat lacking now. The southern industry learned from our film and have now overtaken us, that is why we are remaking their films.”
The actor supported the argument that too many chefs ruin the stew, and Bollywood was suffering from this very problem.
“The story is the hero, and the director is the boss, and we should work according to those two entities, but we think we know everything, and everyone who has a monitor in front of them will give their opinion, and that leads to mistakes,” he added.
During the interview with Komal Nahta, Sunny Deol also shed light on his upcoming film ‘Lahore 1947’, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
“I think our collaboration is going to generate excitement because our previous three films became cult classics, and due to digital platforms, those films have stayed relevant and alive,” said Sunny Deol.
Coming back to Sunny Deol, he will next be seen in 'Jaat'. The film has been directed by Gopichand Malineni and also stars Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher and Ramya Krishnan.
'Jaat' is slated to release in theatres on Friday, April 10. Earlier, at the trailer launch event of 'Jaat', Sunny Deol expressed his wish of seeing Bollywood producers learning from the conviction of the South filmmakers.
"I wish Bollywood producers learn something from South producers. Make it Hindi cinema first, and then learn how to make cinema. The script is the hero there. I had so much fun that I’m already asking them to make another film with me. Kya pata wahin ja ke bas jau main," said Sunny Deol.
“Because of foreign influence, we forget what’s happening in our own country. We should go back to our roots and make films like Ghatak, Damini and Arjun,” he added.
Sunny Deol was last seen in Anil Sharma's 'Gadar 2' alongside Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film registered a nett collection of Rs 525.70 crore in India on an approximate budget of Rs 80 crore.
