Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has finally addressed the long-standing allegations of sabotaging careers, which resurfaced after director Abhinav Kashyap’s recent remarks. Kashyap, who directed Salman’s 2010 blockbuster ‘Dabangg’, had accused the Khan family of destroying many people’s careers, including his own. Speaking to The Indian Express’ SCREEN ahead of the film’s 15th anniversary, he claimed the Khans were “vindictive” and accused Salman of being disinterested in acting for decades. On ‘Bigg Boss 19’ Weekend Ka Vaar, Salman appeared to respond to these remarks.

Former contestant Shehnaaz Gill joined him on stage and thanked him for launching her into Bollywood with ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’. She said, “Sir, aapne itnon ke career banaye hai.” Salman humbly replied, “Maine kahan banaye hain kisi ki career. Career banane waala toh upar waala hai.”

The actor, often credited with supporting newcomers like Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Zarine Khan, Daisy Shah, Pulkit Samrat and Aayush Sharma, then addressed the more controversial allegation.

“Laanchhan bhi daala hai ki kitno ke dubaaye hai… Kaunsa career khaaya maine? Agar khau na toh main apna khud ka career khaa jaunga,” he said, dismissing claims of deliberately harming others.

Salman admitted that he sometimes becomes complacent but tries to regain control later. A video of the same is now going viral on social media.

His alleged feud with actor Vivek Oberoi in the early 2000s is often cited as an example of the “career sabotage” narrative.

Abhinav Kashyap, meanwhile, claimed his brother Anurag Kashyap was also dropped from Salman’s 2003 hit ‘Tere Naam’ for asking the actor to grow chest hair, after which the late Satish Kaushik replaced him as director.

In his fiery remarks, Abhinav Kashyap called Salman “ill-mannered” and a “gunda,” insisting that the actor thrives more on celebrity power than on acting.

“He is the father of the star system in Bollywood. He is from a film family which has been in the industry since 50 years. He continues the process. They are vindictive people. They control the whole process. If you don’t agree with them, they come after you,” said Abhinav, adding, “He is not even interested in acting, and he hasn’t been since the last 25 years. He does a favour by turning up to work. He is more into the power of being a celebrity, but he is not interested in acting. He is a gunda.”

“I was not aware of this before Dabangg. Salman badtameez hai, ganda insaan hai,” he further stated.

After delivering ‘Dabangg’, Abhinav Kashyap was excluded from its sequels – ‘Dabangg 2’ (2012), directed by Arbaaz Khan, and ‘Dabangg 3’ (2019), helmed by Prabhu Deva. His last directorial remains the 2013 box-office failure ‘Besharam’, starring Ranbir Kapoor.

‘Dabangg’ also starred Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz Khan, Sonu Sood, Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, Anupam Kher, and Mahesh Manjrekar.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan was last seen in AR Murugadoss’ action drama ‘Sikandar’ with Rashmika Mandanna.

He will next appear in ‘Battle of Galwan’, where he plays an Indian Army soldier. The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is said to be inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes. He is currently hosting ‘Bigg Boss 19’.
