PIL In Delhi HC For Banning Public Viewing Of Netflix Series 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack'
A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court, seeking a ban on the recently-released Hindi web series 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack'.
A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court, seeking a ban on the recently-released Hindi web series 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack', directed by Anubhav Sinha. As per a PTI report, the PIL has been filed over allegations of distortion of facts about the real identities of the hijackers. The PIL alleges that the series shows the real hijackers having Hindi names, such as 'Bhola' and 'Shankar'.
As per PTI, the petition has been filed by Surjit Singh Yadav, a farmer and president of Hindu Sena. He has now urged the Centre to cancel the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certificate and ban the public viewing of the series.
“The distortion of crucial facts about the real identities of the hijackers not only misrepresents historical events but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misinformation, warranting interference of this court to prevent further public misunderstanding and potential harm,” the petition says, as per PTI.
For the unversed, the Central Government has also summoned Netflix India Content Head. The series has now triggered a massive row over the depiction of hijackers, saying that no one has the right to play with the sentiments of the nation.
'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack' stars Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, and Patralekhaa.
