‘Dhurandhar 2’ OTT Release Date Revealed? Court Case Over Film Hints At Streaming Plans
‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ may finally be heading to OTT soon, with a court hearing unintentionally revealing the film’s expected streaming timeline.
Ranveer Singh’s explosive spy thriller ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ has been practically unstoppable at the ticket counters, but even as fans continue to flock to theatres, the digital world is buzzing with one major question: when will it hit streaming? While the makers have kept official digital premiere announcements tightly under wraps, a legal dispute has inadvertently spilled the beans on the blockbuster’s highly anticipated OTT release plans. Directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Jio Studios alongside B62 Studios, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has firmly cemented its status as a colossal cinematic milestone.

Playing an Indian spy navigating the dangerous terrain of Karachi, Ranveer Singh leads a stellar ensemble cast that includes Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun. The film's theatrical run – having completed seven phenomenal weeks – has shattered multiple major box office records. It boasts the biggest opening for a Bollywood film and holds the highest domestic collection for a Hindi movie, becoming the exclusive Hindi film to net over Rs 1000 crore within India. With a staggering global haul nearing Rs 1800 crore, it currently ranks as the second-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Together, the two films in the franchise have amassed a jaw-dropping Rs 3100 crore worldwide.
However, the film’s massive commercial run hasn't been without its share of behind-the-scenes controversy. The climax of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ features a track titled ‘Rang De Laal’, composed by Shashwat Sachdev. The track is a remixed version of the classic chartbuster ‘Tirchi Topiwale’ from the movie ‘Tridev’. This musical choice has sparked a high-stakes legal battle. Rajiv Rai, the director and producer of ‘Tridev’, has dragged the makers to court, alleging that the iconic song was used without proper authorisation. The Delhi High Court initially stepped in to cool the friction, advising both parties to resolve the dispute through mediation. However, in an update presented to the court recently, it was officially informed that the mediation process has failed, keeping the legal fire alive.

It was precisely during these intense court hearings that the secret regarding the film's streaming future was uncovered. Super Cassettes, the entity holding the audio and music rights for ‘Dhurandhar 2’, strongly opposed the petitioner's plea for interim relief. Defending their position, the film's producer, B62 Films, presented an argument that gave fans the exact OTT timeline they had been waiting for. They informed the court that since the film is already running successfully in theatres, it is highly unlikely to be made available on streaming platforms before mid-May.
This timeline perfectly aligns with the entertainment industry's standard 8-to-10-week window between a theatrical release and a digital debut. With ‘Dhurandhar 2’ set to complete its eighth week in cinemas on May 14, fans can expect the digital premiere to follow shortly after.
Interestingly, there is a major platform shift for the sequel. While the first installment, ‘Dhurandhar’, made its digital debut on Netflix exactly eight weeks after its December 2025 theatrical release (premiering on January 30), the new spy thriller is officially slated to stream exclusively on JioHotstar.
As the courtroom battle over the climax song continues, all eyes are now locked on mid-May to catch this record-breaking blockbuster from the comfort of home.
