Ranbir Kapoor will essay the role of Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana'.

The anticipation for Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus ‘Ramayana Part One’ has reached a fever pitch following an exclusive preview held for a select audience in Los Angeles. While the rest of the world waits for a public glimpse, those lucky enough to attend the LA screening are already calling Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama a career-defining performance, with some even drawing comparisons to the legendary Arun Govil. The event was attended by the core pillars of the project, including director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, and lead actor Ranbir Kapoor.

Following the screening of the teaser – referred to as the ‘Rama’ glimpse – an emotional fan interaction stole the spotlight. A representative from Nazranaa, a prominent South Asian boutique in the US, met with Ranbir to present him with a custom-made gift: a Ram Mandir-themed vest. He also praised Ranbir for his portrayal of Lord Rama in the teaser.

A video shared by the boutique shows Ranbir’s genuine appreciation for the craftsmanship and the sentiment behind the gesture. The boutique’s social media post expressed profound awe for the footage, stating that the two-minute and thirty-second trailer provided "goosebumps throughout" and praised the team for the emotional depth already evident in the short preview.

Perhaps the highest praise came in the comments section of the boutique's post. When a user questioned if Ranbir could truly embody the divine persona of Lord Rama, the boutique representative responded emphatically: “You should watch the trailer! He definitely reminded us of Arun Govil.”

For generations of Indian viewers, Arun Govil’s portrayal in Ramanand Sagar’s 1987 ‘Ramayan’ has been the gold standard. In a poetic passing of the torch, Arun Govil himself is part of Nitesh Tiwari’s new adaptation, though this time he will be essaying the role of King Dashrath. The fan feedback suggests that Ranbir has successfully captured the serenity and gravitas required for the role, bridging the gap between the classic template and modern cinema.

The LA screening also highlighted the massive scale on which this duology is being mounted. The production features a collaboration between two musical titans: Academy Award winners AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Their combined score is being described as "next level," adding a layer of international prestige to the Indian epic. Furthermore, the visual effects are being handled by DNEG, an eight-time Oscar-winning VFX studio, ensuring that the world of Ramayana is brought to life with unprecedented detail.

The film boasts one of the most star-studded ensembles in recent memory. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Rama, the film features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana.

Fans won't have to wait much longer for their first official look at the project. The teaser is scheduled to be released globally tomorrow, April 2, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

As for the theatrical journey, ‘Ramayana’ is being produced as a two-part saga shot back-to-back. ‘Ramayana Part One’ is slated for an October 2026 release, while the concluding chapter, Part Two, is expected to hit theatres a year later, just ahead of Diwali 2027.
