'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has created history with a Rs 300 crore opening weekend in India.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has rewritten the record books at the Indian box office. Led by Tom Holland, the superhero film became the first Hollywood release to gross more than Rs 300 crore in India during its opening weekend, establishing a benchmark that once seemed almost impossible for an international movie. Released in India on July 30, 2026, the film collected an estimated Rs 306.37 crore gross and Rs 257.95 crore nett during its four-day extended opening weekend.

By Monday morning (August 3), its running India total has already reached approximately Rs 311 crore gross, although collections for the fifth day are still being updated. The extraordinary performance placed the film comfortably ahead of the previous record holder, ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

The milestone also reflects how dramatically the audience for Hollywood tentpole movies has expanded in India. Marvel productions dominate the list, but James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ remains the notable exception, demonstrating that large-scale spectacle can transcend individual cinematic universes.

Wondering which films feature among the five biggest Hollywood opening weekends in India? Check out the list below:

1. Spider-Man: Brand New Day – Rs 306 Crore

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ was released in India on July 30, 2026, a day before its wider international release. Tom Holland returned as Peter Parker, alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando and Tramell Tillman. The film follows Peter as he attempts to build a life in a world that no longer remembers him. Now operating as Spider-Man full-time, he faces increasing physical and emotional pressure before a mysterious new threat forces him into another dangerous battle.

As per trade tracker Sacnilk, the superhero spectacle opened with approximately Rs 60.60 crore nett in India on Thursday. It subsequently collected Rs 49.35 crore on Friday, Rs 70.25 crore on Saturday and around Rs 77.75 crore on Sunday. Its four-day weekend stood at approximately Rs 257.95 crore nett and Rs 306.37 crore gross, making it the first Hollywood film to cross the Rs 300 crore gross mark during its Indian opening weekend.

Since the film is still running in cinemas, its final India lifetime collection is not yet available. As of the latest update on August 3, its cumulative total was approximately Rs 259.58 crore nett and Rs 311 crore gross, with Day 5 collections still in progress.

2. Avengers: Endgame – Rs 187 Crore

Before ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ arrived, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ held the Hollywood opening-weekend record in India for more than seven years. Released on April 26, 2019, the Marvel blockbuster was directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. The massive ensemble featured Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin, among several other Marvel stars. Set after the devastating events of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, the film follows the surviving Avengers as they devise one final plan to reverse Thanos’ actions and restore the people erased by the Blip.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ earned Rs 158.65 crore nett and approximately Rs 187 crore gross during its three-day opening weekend in India. It ultimately finished its theatrical run with an estimated Rs 373.05 crore nett and around Rs 445 crore gross in the country. Its opening-weekend gross record remained untouched until 2026.

3. Avatar: The Way Of Water – Rs 157.13 Crore

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was released in India on December 16, 2022. The long-awaited sequel to the 2009 film featured Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis and Kate Winslet in prominent roles. Set more than a decade after the original ‘Avatar’, the film follows Jake Sully and Neytiri as they raise their family on Pandora. When an old enemy returns, the family is forced to leave its home and seek shelter with the ocean-dwelling Metkayina clan.

The film collected approximately Rs 128.80 crore nett during its first three days in India. Its opening-weekend gross was estimated at Rs 157.13 crore, placing it behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’ but ahead of every other non-Marvel Hollywood release in the country.

Strong weekday collections and remarkable audience retention helped the film build a much larger final total. ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ concluded its India run with an estimated Rs 391.40 crore nett and Rs 477.50 crore gross, making it one of the highest-grossing Hollywood films ever released in the country.

4. Spider-Man: No Way Home – Rs 138.55 Crore

Directed by Jon Watts, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ arrived in Indian cinemas on December 16, 2021. Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau and Benedict Cumberbatch led the cast, while Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx returned as villains from earlier ‘Spider-Man’ franchises. The film begins after Peter Parker’s secret identity is exposed to the world. Hoping to restore his old life, Peter asks Doctor Strange to cast a spell that would make people forget his identity. The spell goes wrong, opening the multiverse and bringing dangerous characters from alternate realities into his world.

Benefiting from tremendous anticipation and an extended four-day opening frame, the film collected Rs 108.37 crore nett and Rs 138.55 crore gross by the end of its first Sunday in India. It went on to finish with approximately Rs 217.10 crore nett and Rs 271 crore gross in India. Its success was particularly significant because it arrived when the theatrical business was still recovering from pandemic-related disruptions, yet managed to generate the kind of excitement normally associated with India’s biggest stars.

5. Avengers: Infinity War – Rs 120.90 Crore

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was released in India on April 27, 2018. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film brought together Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pratt and Josh Brolin. The story follows the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and their allies as they attempt to stop Thanos from collecting all six Infinity Stones. The villain plans to use their combined power to erase half of all life in the universe, setting up a sprawling conflict involving heroes across Earth, space and Wakanda.

The film amassed Rs 94.30 crore nett and approximately Rs 120.90 crore gross during its three-day Indian opening weekend. At the time, it delivered the biggest opening weekend ever recorded by a Hollywood release in the country. ‘Infinity War’ eventually earned approximately Rs 227.43 crore nett in India. Its gross total has been estimated at around Rs 294 crore.

The gap between ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and the previous record holder illustrates the scale of its achievement. While ‘Avengers: Endgame’ grossed approximately Rs 187 crore during its first weekend, the latest ‘Spider-Man’ installment crossed Rs 306 crore over its four-day opening frame. Whether another Hollywood movie can soon challenge the Rs 300 crore opening-weekend milestone remains to be seen.
