‘Animal’ has turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2023, and has now even overtaken Gadar 2.

Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri-starrer ‘Animal’, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga of ‘Arjun Reddy’ and ‘Kabir Singh’ fame, released in theatres on December 1, 2023. And 20 days later, the new Hindi movie continues to make noise at the box office. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, co-starring Shakti Kapoor, has turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2023, despite being bashed for glorifying toxic masculinity and misogyny. On Wednesday, which was the 20th day of its release, ‘Animal’ made Rs 5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

And now the total nett domestic collection across all languages stands at Rs 528.69 crore. As a result, ‘Animal’ has now gone past Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer ‘Gadar 2’, which had made Rs 525.45 crore nett in India after its release in August.

Globally, ‘Animal’ has made over Rs 850 crore. Hence, it is now the third biggest Hindi film of 2023 after Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’.

As ‘Animal’ enters its fourth week of release, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial is nearing the end of its run as Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Dunki’ and Prabhas’ ‘Salaar’ will be releasing this week.

‘Animal’ is also the biggest hit of Ranbir Kapoor’s career. Before this, his biggest hit was Rajkumar Hirani’s 2018 film ‘Sanju’, which made Rs 342.53 crore.

In an interview with Galatta Plus, Sandeep Reddy Vanga said that the criticism does not bother him.

“Misogyny is the disrespect of women, that’s the actual definition. So, no. Even Kabir Singh, even Animal, even me as a person… I always feel my production company’s name is Bhadrakali Productions, I don’t know why people feel I disrespect (women). Not people, just these 15-20 jokers. It’s the wrong word to use (to describe) Kabir Singh and Animal,” he said.

“This too much of analysing and scrutinising films started of late, right," he added.
