Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone’s ‘Fighter’ Makes Stunning Comeback, Goes Past Rs 175 Crore In India
‘Fighter’ saw a rise in box office numbers on its second weekend, and the film is now nearing the Rs 180 crore mark.

Siddharth Anand’s ‘Fighter’, starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor in the lead roles, has had a never-seen-before trajectory at the domestic box office. The new Hindi movie, which released in theatres on January 25 and enjoyed an extended Republic Day weekend, witnessed an underwhelming first week. The returns at the box office did not yield desired results for the film’s team. However, in a major boost for the makers, ‘Fighter’ saw a rise in box office collection on its second weekend, and the film is now nearing the Rs 180 crore mark.
As per early estimates posted by industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Fighter’ minted Rs 13 crore, across all versions on Sunday, which was the 11th day of its release.
The total nett domestic collection of ‘Fighter’ now stands at Rs 175.75 crore and it remains to be seen whether the film manages to go past the Rs 200 crore mark in India, considering Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon's ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ releases in theatres on February 9.
Globally, ‘Fighter’ has gone past the Rs 300 crore mark, and the performance on its second week will indicate the film's lifetime business.
‘Fighter’, co-starring Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi and Sanjeeda Shaikh, has already surpassed the lifetime collection of Hrithik Roshan's last film ‘Vikram Vedha’. It is safe to say that the new Hindi movie will easily go past the lifetime collection of ‘Bang Bang’, as it had made Rs 181 crore in India.
Talking about ‘Fighter’, the new Hindi movie is presented by Viacom18 Studios in association with Marflix Pictures. It is the third collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Siddharth Anand after ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘War’. The new Hindi movie is also the third collaboration between Deepika Padukone and Siddharth Anand after ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and ‘Pathaan’.
Earlier, Siddharth Anand had defended the underwhelming box office performance of ‘Fighter’, saying 90 per cent of Indians have not taken a flight, hence it is hard for them to relate to the aerial action sequences in the film.
“Another thing is the genre. Fighter is a huge leap for a filmmaker. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience. They are like, ‘What are these planes doing?',” Siddharth Anand said in an interview with Galatta Plus.
“There is a huge percentage of our country, I would say, 90 per cent, who have not flown in planes, who have not been to an airport, so how would they know what’s happening in the movie? This is my dissection. They felt this is a little alien. They didn’t understand what kind of exhilaration they are supposed to feel in the air action, so there is a certain initial disconnect. But once you enter the theatre, you realise this is such a basic film,” he added.
