Director Siddharth Anand’s latest release ‘Fighter’, starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, is struggling to go past the Rs 200 crore mark at the domestic box office. Despite earning more than Rs 40 crore on Republic Day (January 26), the new Hindi movie is struggling to enjoy a good number of footfalls on weekdays, and it is showing in the daily collection. ‘Fighter’, co-starring Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi and Sanjeeda Shaikh, released in theatres on January 25. It received mixed response from the audience and critics, and this is being reflected in its earnings.

The new Hindi movie’s collection on Tuesday, which was the 13th day of its release, was recorded at Rs 3.25 crore, as per early estimates posted by industry tracker Sacnilk. The total nett domestic collection of the aerial actioner now stands at Rs 181.75 crore.

The Hindi occupancy of the film was 10.19 per cent on Tuesday. However, ‘Fighter’ is having a better run globally. As per trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, the worldwide collection of the film after 13 days stands at Rs 312.85 crore.

Earlier, trade analyst Taran Adarsh had also given his take on the underwhelming box office performance of ‘Fighter’ and Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Dunki’.

"Let’s face it, the outcome of #Dunki as well as #Fighter is underwhelming, despite the merits… The #BO numbers should’ve been much, much better and while the makers will recover the investment thanks to non-theatrical avenues, even book profits, the industry needs to open its eyes to the fact that you need to make films for all-India audience, not restrict it to a handful of metros," he wrote on X.

In 2023, Siddharth Anand had delivered one of the biggest hits of Hindi cinema in the form of 'Pathaan', starring SRK, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

In comparison to 'Fighter', SRK's 'Pathaan' had minted Rs 8.55 crore on the 13th day of its release, which is around Rs 5 crore more than the newly-released Hindi movie.

After 13 days, 'Pathaan' had earned Rs 438.15 crore. It ended its run with a total collection of Rs 543.09 crore in India.

It looks unlikely that 'Fighter' will manage to go past the Rs 200 crore mark, considering Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ is slated to release in cinemas on Friday, February 9.

Earlier, Siddharth Anand had defended the underwhelming box office performance of ‘Fighter’, saying 90 per cent of Indians have not taken a flight, hence it is hard for them to relate to the aerial action sequences in the film.

“Another thing is the genre. Fighter is a huge leap for a filmmaker. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience. They are like, ‘What are these planes doing?',” Siddharth Anand said in an interview with Galatta Plus.

“There is a huge percentage of our country, I would say, 90 per cent, who have not flown in planes, who have not been to an airport, so how would they know what’s happening in the movie? This is my dissection. They felt this is a little alien. They didn’t understand what kind of exhilaration they are supposed to feel in the air action, so there is a certain initial disconnect. But once you enter the theatre, you realise this is such a basic film,” he added.
