The Deol family has been navigating an emotionally difficult week following veteran superstar Dharmendra’s hospitalisation, a period further worsened by the circulation of false death reports that sent shockwaves across social media. After Esha Deol and Hema Malini publicly condemned the irresponsible spread of misinformation, the situation escalated on Thursday when Sunny Deol lost his patience with the paparazzi stationed outside his Mumbai home. Sunny, visibly distressed, stepped outside his residence and confronted photographers who had been camping around the Deol household since Dharmendra’s hospitalisation at Breach Candy Hospital.

The Bollywood actor reprimanded them sharply for invading their privacy at a time when the family is dealing with overwhelming stress. In viral videos shared online, Sunny Deol can be seen folding his hands before the paparazzi and telling them to exercise basic decency.

“Aap logon ko sharam aani chahiye… Aapke ghar mein maa-baap hain, aapke bacche hain... Ch******n ki tarah video liye jaa rahe ho… Sharam nahi aati,” he said, expressing his disappointment at the relentless intrusion.

His outburst came just a day after Dharmendra was discharged and brought home, prompting an even larger media presence outside their residence.

Throughout the previous days, photographers not only filmed members of the Deol family and others arriving to meet the ailing actor but also captured images of food deliveries being made to the home – further fuelling concerns over privacy breaches.

The situation prompted filmmaker Karan Johar to publicly call out the “media circus”. In a strong statement shared via Instagram Stories, Karan expressed heartbreak over the insensitivity shown to Dharmendra and urged everyone to show compassion rather than chase intrusive content.

In a new interview with Subhash K Jha, Hema Malini admitted that the past several days had been extremely challenging. She revealed that Dharmendra’s children had been “sleepless” since his hospitalisation.

“It has not been an easy time for me. Dharamji’s health is a matter of great concern for us. His children are sleepless. I can’t afford to be weak, too many responsibilities. But yes, I am happy he’s back home. We are relieved he is out of hospital. He needs to be among the people he loves. Baki toh sab upar wale ke haath mein hai. Please pray for us,” Hema told Subhash K Jha, as quoted by The Times of India.

Following Dharmendra’s discharge, Sunny Deol’s team issued an official statement confirming that the veteran actor will continue treatment at home and strongly appealed to the media and public to stop speculating and respect their privacy. The family also thanked fans for their prayers and unwavering support.

Earlier this week, both Hema Malini and Esha Deol had shut down rumours surrounding Dharmendra’s alleged demise, clarifying that he was stable and responding to treatment.

Dharmendra, who was last seen in ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, will next feature in Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Ikkis’, scheduled for a December release.
