Sharmila Tagore said she found the movie 'Crew' absurd while she also spoke about the misogyny in 'Animal'.

'Crew', starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, Kriti Sanon, Kapil Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh, is one of the successful Hindi movies of 2024 as it went on to do a business of almost Rs 90 crore. In the latest entertainment news, Kareena's mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore has given her take on the film, during a conversation with Kapil Sibal on the latter's YouTube channel 'Dil Se Kapil Sibal'. Sharmila Tagore said that 'Crew' was "absurd" in its storyline but she praised the three leads -- Kareena, Kriti and Tabu.

“It is absurd, of course, beyond belief but there are three women pulling off this adventure. One is landing a plane, one is breaking a safe… doing all kinds of things together and the camaraderie between the three is excellent because they say a woman is a woman’s worst enemy, not so here," she said.

"Crew has done very well. Three women are doing all kinds of fantastic things and it has done extremely well at the box office. That will encourage a lot of filmmakers to do women-centric films," she added.

During the conversation, Sharmila Tagore said that the success of Ranbir Kapoor's smash-hit 'Animal' cannot be "rubbished", but she also called for an examination as to why the audience embraced the film.

"There was a film called Animal”, she said, to which Sibal interrupted and said, “Terrible, terrible film, full of violence.”

Sharmila Tagore then said, "Beyond violence, there was misogyny. But there were a lot of women in the audience who said I want somebody to love me like that. Any film that runs a lot, you cannot rubbish it. You have to engage with it, try and understand it that what exactly is happening here.”

When Kapil Sibal said that Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies' has broken the record of 'Animal', Sharmila Tagore said, "Only on the OTT, not in the theatres."

"It did well even theatrically as it was within the budget. Whereas Animal spent a lot of money and made a huge amount of money also and other films like that. There is that stark difference (in budgets) and it will continue. I don’t see it in the near future that it is going to change… So, the smaller films will also get their money back but not in the quantity that say a Ranbir Kapoor or a Ranveer Singh will bring," she added.
