In a powerful display of industry solidarity, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has come out in support of veteran actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav. The gesture follows a recent incident at the Chetak Screen Awards where the host took a pointed public dig at Rajpal Yadav’s ongoing legal and financial struggles. Rajpal Yadav, a staple of Indian cinema for three decades, has been navigating a turbulent legal storm involving a Rs 9 crore debt and a subsequent cheque bounce case.

The situation reached a peak in February 2026, when the actor was briefly sent to Tihar Jail before being granted interim bail. While the actor has since returned to his professional commitments, the controversy became fodder for a biting joke during the awards ceremony.

 

During the event, the conversation turned towards the volatility of global currency and fluctuating exchange rates. Seizing the moment, the host directed a sharp jibe at Rajpal Yadav, stating, “Rajpal bhai, no matter how much the dollar and rupee fluctuate, aapko utne hi paise lautane padenge jitne udhaar hain.”

The remark, which directly referenced the actor’s Rs 9 crore debt, could have easily turned into an awkward confrontation. However, Rajpal Yadav won over the audience and social media users by maintaining his composure, dismissing the comment with a graceful smile and refusing to engage in a back-and-forth.

While the internet praised Rajpal Yadav’s dignity, Salman Khan took it a step further by using his massive platform on X (formerly Twitter) to shift the narrative back to the actor’s professional merit. In a heartfelt post, Salman reminded everyone of Rajpal Yadav’s immense contribution to cinema.

“Rajpal bhai aap 30 yrs se kaam kar rahe ho aur hum sabne aapko repeat kiya hai baar baar kyunki aap apna kaam jante ho aur ek value laate ho,” Salman wrote.

Addressing the financial mockery, he added that work would continue to come his way at high market rates, stating, “Kaam toh aapko bohot milega aur issi dollar rate pe milega aur milte rahega . Hakikat yeh hai.”

Salman Khan further advised Rajpal Yadav to ignore the host's comments, suggesting they were likely said “in the flow” of the moment. “Aur yeh yaad rakhna ke kabhi kabhi flow mai kuch nikal aata hai ,dena hi hai toh dimag mai rakho dil se kaam karo , dollar upar ho ya neeche kya farak padta hai dena toh India mai hi hai,” the superstar concluded.

 

Amid the chatter, Rajpal Yadav also reacted to the controversy by sharing a video on X and requesting the viewers to not criticising the hosts, calling it a planned skit.

 

The support from a titan like Salman Khan comes at a crucial time for Rajpal Yadav. After his interim bail on February 16, the Delhi High Court clarified that he would not be taken back into custody following the vacation of the earlier interim order.

Despite the legal hurdles, Rajpal Yadav is gearing up for a massive theatrical release. He is set to star in the highly anticipated ‘Bhooth Bangla’, sharing the screen with Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi and Tabu. The film is scheduled for a wide release on April 17, with special paid previews beginning on April 16, 9 PM.
