Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement after the third Test against Australia ended in a draw. He made the announcement when he attended the press conference along with Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Speaking to reporters, Ashwin said, “This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats. I do feel there’s a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I would like to expose and probably showcase that in club level cricket, but this will be the last day. I had a lot of fun. I must say I’ve created a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my other teammates, even though I’ve lost some of them over the last few years.”
The 38-year-old cricketer took 765 wickets across Tests, T20Is and ODIs for India. He was also a part of India's 2011 World Cup-winning squad and 2013 Champions Trophy-winning team.
Ravichandran Ashwin finishes his career, only second to Anil Kumble, when it comes to most wickets for an Indian bowler in Tests.
