Netflix India has updated the opening disclaimer of the new Hindi web series 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack', directed by Anubhav Sinha. Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, has confirmed that the makers have now officially included the real names of the terrorists as a disclaimer in the show. For the unversed, a section of the audience has accused the makers of deliberately changing the names of terrorists in the show.

"For the benefit of audiences unfamiliar with the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, the opening disclaimer has been updated to include the real and code names of the hijackers. The code names in the series reflect those used during the actual event," Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said in an official statement.

"India has a rich culture of storytelling — and we are committed to showcasing these stories and their authentic representation," she added.

In the show, the makers have highlighted the names the terrorists used to address each other in front of the passengers inside the flight. The terrorists in the show are named 'Chief', 'Doctor', 'Shankar', 'Bhola' and 'Burger'.

'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack' stars Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, and Patralekhaa.

'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack' is based on the 1999 hijack of an Indian aircraft by five terrorists. The flight was hijacked 40 minutes after it took off from Kathmandu.

Five terrorists namely Ibrahim Athar, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Ibrahim, Shahid Akhter and Sayed Shakir had hijacked the IC-814 plane during its flight from Kathmandu to Delhi.

At least 154 passengers and crew were held hostage for eight days and the stand-off finally came to an end when terrorists Masood Azhar, Omar Sheikh and Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar were released. The External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh took them on a special plane to Kandahar.
