Oscars 2024: Priyanka Chopra Jonas-backed 'To Kill A Tiger' failed to win as it lost out to '20 Days in Mariupol'.

The day is finally here as the 96th Academy Awards are being announced. In the latest entertainment news, the India-set Canadian documentary 'To Kill A Tiger' has failed to win the Best Documentary Feature. The documentary came up short against '20 Days in Mariupol'. For the unversed, the documentary has been directed by Canadian filmmaker Nisha Pahuja. For the unversed, 'To Kill A Tiger' was nominated alongside films like 'Bobi Wine: The People’s President', 'The Eternal Memory', 'Four Daughters', and '20 Days in Mariupol'.

'To Kill A Tiger' recently premiered on Netflix and the documentary follows the lives of a Jharkhand family, who campaign for justice after their teenage daughter is brutally raped. 

As per the film's official synopsis, 'To Kill A Tiger' is a "cinematic documentary" that chronicles the struggles of a 13-year-old girl's father. The plot shows how the father gets the men accused of rape, arrested but his "relief is short-lived, as the villagers and their leaders launch a sustained campaign to force the family to drop the charges."

'To Kill A Tiger' is executive produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Dev Patel, and Mindy Kaling.

Cornelia Principe and David Oppenheim have produced the film.

'To Kill A Tiger' premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival where it won the Amplify Voices Award for Best Canadian Feature Film.

For the unversed, the Oscars 2024 are taking place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. 

The Best Picture category includes nominations for films like 'Oppenheimer', 'American Fiction, 'Anatomy of a Fall', 'Barbie', 'The Holdovers', 'Maestro', 'Past Lives', 'Killers of the Flower Moon' and 'The Zone of Interest'.

Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' has scored nominations in 13 categories. Yorgos Lanthimos’ 'Poor Things' starring Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo has bagged 11 nominations while Martin Scorsese’s 'Killers of the Flower Moon', starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, has been nominated in 10 categories.
