'Stree 2' Records Biggest Opening For Hindi Film in 2024; 'Vedaa' Outperforms 'Khel Khel Mein'
'Stree 2' has set the box office on fire, registering the biggest opening for any Hindi film in 2024.

"Wo stree hai, wo kuch bhi kar sakti hai". Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer 'Stree 2', which released in cinemas on Independence Day 2024, has set the box office on fire. The new Hindi film has registered the biggest opening for any Hindi movie in 2024, going past the likes of 'Fighter', 'Shaitaan', and 'Kalki 2898 AD' (Hindi version). 'Stree 2' has also registered a bigger opening as compared to films like 'Dunki' and 'Tiger 3'.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Stree 2' minted Rs 46 crore on the opening day of its release. On Thursday, the new Hindi film had an overall Hindi occupancy of 77.09 per cent.
For the unversed, 'Stree 2' hit the cinemas on August 14, beginning at 9:30 PM. In its paid previews, the new Hindi film earned Rs 8.35 crore. As a result, the total nett domestic collection of 'Stree 2' now stands at Rs 54.35 crore.
However, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'Stree 2' minted more than Rs 55 crore on the opening day of its release. If this collection is to be believed, then 'Stree 2' has registered bigger opening day numbers as compared to 'Animal', 'Pathaan' and 'KGF 2's Hindi version.

The film will enjoy an extended weekend, owing to a holiday due to Raksha Bandhan on Monday, and the makers would be hoping that 'Stree 2' nears the Rs 200 crore mark by the end of Monday (August 19).
It needs to be seen how 'Stree 2' performs over the coming weekend. Going by the blockbuster reviews from all corners, it looks like that 'Stree 2' will emerge as the biggest Hindi grosser of 2024, going past 'Kalki 2898 AD'.
'Stree 2's performance becomes all the more remarkable when you consider that the Hindi film is not a solo release, and it is clashing with Akshay Kumar's 'Khel Khel Mein' and John Abraham's 'Vedaa'.
Both 'Khel Khel Mein' and 'Vedaa' had an underwhelming Day 1, and both films failed to touch the double digit mark. However, 'Vedaa' managed to outperform 'Khel Khel Mein', continuing the box office slump of Khiladi Kumar.
'Vedaa', starring John Abraham, Sharvari Wagh, Abhishek Banerjee, and Tamannaah Bhatia, earned Rs 6.70 crore on the opening day of its release, as per Sacnilk. The Nikkhil Advani-directorial would now be hoping for a jump over the weekend.
On the other hand, 'Khel Khel Mein', starring Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Fardeen Khan and Pragya Jaiswal, earned just Rs 5 crore on the opening day of its release. This opening is bigger than Akshay Kumar's previous release 'Sarfira', however, it is still poor, considering the film released on a national holiday.
Coming back to 'Stree 2', the new Hindi film also stars Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi. 'Stree 2' also features cameos by Tamannaah Bhatia, Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan.
