Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ released in theatres on Eid 2024.

In 2023, viewers witnessed many big box office clashes. Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ clashed with Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ in August 2023. Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ was released on December 1, with Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sam Bahadur’ debuting in theatres on the same day. The biggest box office clash took place when Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ went up against Prabhas’ ‘Salaar’ in December 2023. Only a few months into 2024, we witnessed another box office clash as Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ was released alongside Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ on Eid 2024.

Fans were expecting both the new Hindi movies to make the most of the holiday and record a good box office collection. However, this was not the case. This box office clash turned out to be a complete dud as both the films are continuing to underperform at the ticket counters.

On its first Wednesday, the 7th day of its release, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ showed marginal growth as it made Rs 2.50 crore. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the new Hindi movie had made Rs 2.4 crore on Tuesday. The total collection of the new Hindi movie currently stands at Rs 48.20 crore.

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ had an overall 11.21 per cent Hindi occupancy on Wednesday. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy, followed by cities like Jaipur and Mumbai.

Akshay Kumar’s recent films have struggled to perform well at the box office. Apart from the 2023 film ‘OMG 2’, his other projects such as ‘Ram Setu’, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Selfiee’, and ‘Raksha Bandhan’ had received a lukewarm response from audiences.

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, also stars Tiger Shroff, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F and Sonakshi Sinha.

Meanwhile, ‘Maidaan’ minted Rs 2 crore on its first Wednesday, recording a marginal growth from its first Tuesday when it earned Rs 1.6 crore. The new Hindi movie’s total collection now stands at Rs 27.10 crore. ‘Maidaan’ had an overall 14.30 percent Hindi occupancy on Wednesday.

‘Maidaan’, directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, also stars Priyamani and Gajraj Rao in pivotal roles. It is based on the life of Indian football legend Syed Abdul Rahim.

The new Hindi movie marked Ajay Devgn’s weakest opening since ‘Runaway 34’ in 2022. ‘Runaway 34’ managed to collect Rs 22 crore after one week and Rs 32.96 crore in its entire theatrical run. Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam 2’, which was a commercial and critical success, minted Rs 104 crore after one week and made Rs 239.67 crore in its entire run.

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and ‘Maidaan’ will now face tough competition from ‘Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2’ and ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’, set to release in cinemas on April 19, 2024.
